Here's a breakdown of our experience: Location: -Ideal for a car-free vacation! The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Lithia Park, Ashland Plaza, and everything we needed were all within walking distance. I really enjoyed my time in Ashland. The city’s twinkling lights on rooftops during the winter nights create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Staying at the Winchester Inn for two days was a delightful surprise. The hotel has a charming, vintage European style, with beautifully detailed decor, and everything was spotless and well-maintained. I especially loved the windowsill in my room — it was the perfect spot to sit, read a book, or simply gaze out at the sparkling city lights…✨

Charming, folksy, historical ambience, two minutes walk to the river with a mile and a half trail along side the scenic Rogue. Warm and welcoming staff of friendly, interesting people. They went out of their way to make me comfortable, even bringing up a mini fridge to my room which wasn't normally offered in that room, and bringing a microwave to my sisters room which also wasn't normally offered in that room. They feed you a lot--a full breakfast, appetizers at 4:30 which you could practically make dinner out of, fresh cookies out of the oven at 7:30 every night. Games to play available in the large and homey family room/lobby, with a big fireplace. Just such a lovely view out of the dining room. You look out into the the huge lawn and the tall trees and the cabins below. Also it's located with an easy driving distance to many fun hikes and other special attractions of the area.

Medford is pretty much a full service town, offering a wide variety of attractions, nature and dining to fill up any length of vacation. Milder in climate during the winter, if your looking to escape the cold, but winter activities close by. Gets pretty hot in the summer. Spring and fall are beautiful there.

We are not your typical travelers to Ashland, as we live 74 miles away and are usually coming over for a concert/musical show. Our town is more rural and Ashland provides a good opportunity to stock up on things we can't get in our town. Always stop at Ashland's own Shop-n-Kart grocery. We also, almost always, stop at Falafel Republic for to go Greek food. Sam, the owner is super nice and he makes great food!! If there is time and we don't need to be home, we love to wander Lithia Park for a few hours. People on "vacation" there, for what ever reason, will find this to be a town of immense charm and variety.

The hotel that we stayed at was outdated, moldy, and stinky. The Chinese restaurant next it had server whom didn’t dress appropriately for their server role. Other than that, the Panda Express and the Walmart were great. Small town with small town vibes but no one was rude. I wouldn’t stay at Grants Pass again but will stay at a much higher rated hotel.

Very few places to eat that were open in Shady Cove. The best likely place to eat in Shady Cove is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mac's Diner adjoins the motel. Was looking forward to eating there but it was not available during my stay. This should be noted on the Restaurant's website and the Motel could also mention this fact on their website since the restaurant is adjacent to the motel.

If you're looking for a slower paced university town with offerings from the arts to great eateries, you'll love Ashland. The streets, although not immaculate, are very clean. Downtown has many shops, pubs, eateries, as well as a couple parks. It also holds a few theaters that are home to the annual Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Don't worry, if Shakespeare isn't your vibe, several other plays both current and classic are performed during the festival. There really is something for everyone.
