At the top of the staircase is the quaintest 2 bedroom loft cottage, decorated in a cosy, beach cottage style and well appointed with everything you might need for your stay including a microwave, airfryer, toaster, kettle (note to the owners - The kettle didn't switch off properly so has to be turned off at the wall), tea, coffee, milk, rusks and a cookie on the pillow. We were extremely comfortable. The cottage is a perfect choice for all seasons with a gorgeous outdoor deck for warmer months and heaters and electric blankets for cooler months. We loved our stay! Thank you!

The property was in a great location, super clean and amazing facilities. Our room was lovely and we could see the sea. Roelou made sure the hot tub was suitably warm for late night dips! Breakfast was delicious and all the people working at the property were kind and welcoming. We had an amazing BBQ with the other guests on New Year's Eve and that was certainly a highlight of our trip to SA. We will definitely be back!

Let me start this review with a little spoiler: we had originally booked just one night, as a stopover on our road trip along the Garden Route. Well, barely 20 minutes after our arrival — after the tour of our room and the entire hotel, all the way to the terrace with that breathtaking view — we booked an extra night. It was love at first sight with Birkenhead House! What a hotel! How often do you still see that these days, by the way: people taking the time to show you not just your room, but the whole hotel? You can really feel how proud everyone here is — and rightly so! Having all meals and drinks included in the rate is also an incredible asset. And rest assured, no crowded buffets here, but friendly and discreet table service for your meals, as well as in the lounges or out on the terrace for a drink. Top-notch! Oh, and excellent beds too, featuring the best sleep aid in the world: the sound of the ocean! It’s actually that unique blend of the true boutique hotel atmosphere (a term that’s often overused but absolutely fitting here), the in-cre-di-ble location perched on the cliffs with (literally!) views of breaching whales behind the surfers, the intimacy, the delicious food & drinks, the stunning views from almost every spot, and — above all! — the wonderful staff, that make this hotel so exceptional. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our stay at Birkenhead House an absolute highlight of our trip! (...and thank God our room was available for that extra night!) :-)

The location is second to none, incredible ocean and mountain vistas almost wherever you look, but what really made this experience something special are the staff, they are attentive, engaging and friendly. What really struck me about the staff is how much they actually care about your experience, always asking “can I help you with x” or “we can do y if that’s better for you” etc without skipping a beat!

Very comfy cottage, set beautifully amongst the wildlife on Kwetu Farm. The giraffes were a spectacular sight! Fantastic place for walks on the farm ...or just to simply relax. Friedel, our host, was very accommodating. Great times - will definitely visit again!!

Hermanus is great, its a great holiday destination, easy to get to town depending on where you are. It has lovely restaurants, beautiful beaches, views to kill from a number of areas in Hermanus. Just find good accommodation and good area.

Swellendam is a lovely town, full of history and culture.

Swellendam is a lovely town, full of history and culture. The little bee shop in town is delightful, and the prices of meat and groceries are good. A well-maintained town with lots of eateries, medical facilities and petrol stations. People are friendly and I would say that it is a very safe town.

Gansbaai is 2+ hours from Cape Town and is remote.

Gansbaai is 2+ hours from Cape Town and is remote. Disappointed that the great whites have moved out of the area. People are very nice and friendly. The seafood at the Great White restaurant was excellent and very reasonable

Kleinmond is a lovely quiet little town. it has beautiful beaches and beautiful birds . I loved it and will definitely go back. I enjoyed the bric a brac shops as well.its quite dog friendly which is very important to me.

Agulhas is a quiet beautiful little town with wonderful places to eat and visit. The people of Agulhas are friendly and the sea view is lovely, lots of walking paths and an animal friendly environment. The southernmost point of Africa where the two oceans meet and it is part of the National Parks Council.You'll discover fascinating ecological habitats, shipwrecks, national monuments and signs of ancient settlements in this nature conservation area.

Friendly people, safe and clean town. Variety of good restaurants available. Various places to visit. Great beach area with safe swimming area. Close to Agulhas and Arniston areas with places to visit. Continuous strong winds can limit your outdoor activities.

Location great.

Location great. Walking is possible in both direction.meals was nice at hotel, breakfast great! Kassiesbaai visits great. Wandas Restaurant the best. Room had pool view on ground floor, was larger than normal, enjoyed BUT the ceiling fan not sufficient, the room was stuffy and hot and didn't cool down during the night. Improvement is a must. Bathroom also very stuffy.

Betty’s Bay is a lovely, safe area and a great place to...

Betty’s Bay is a lovely, safe area and a great place to relax. The area has a good choice of restaurants, cafes and some small supermarkets, including the excellent deli at the Lemon & Lime cafe. We recommend a visit to Harold Porter Gardens and Stony Point to see the endangered African Penguins, Rock Hyrax or Dassies as they are locally known, and 4 different types of Cormorant. Unbelievably, the small Rock Hyrax are the nearest relatives to elephants. The beaches are lovely and great for a walk and the sea was warm enough to go in (February). You might sometimes see baboons wondering around Betty’s Bay, but they are quickly moved on by Wardens so don’t bother you but are great to watch.

For visiting the hot springs it is good, however it is expensive and you are better off staying in an Air BnB near by and visiting the springs in the day time. Bedrooms lack privacy and are prone to noise from the outside and neighbouring rooms well into the evening.
