Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The staff were great. The location is one of the best for visiting the Inner Harbour. Reasonable price. We've stayed there often. The room we had this time was much smaller than all other visits so just a bit disappointed but it was still a nice room and as always very clean.

It’ll be better if there is no trash in the kitchen trash can.
I like Beacon Hill Park very well. It’s amazing to have a walk in it after breakfast.

The absence of a lift (elevator) was a minor problem. I was awoken twice at night due to fire or police sirens, although that comes with being in the inner city. There was a minor problem with a latch on one of the windows. (I get more out of the negative part of the reviews myself in terms of understanding what it is really like at a place, so that is why I, in turn, am writing more on the 'negative' side, even though I quite like Helm's Inn.)
I personally very much like the vintage tone and feel of Helm's Inn. The 1920's art-deceau feel to the cabinet doors in the kitchenette appeals to me. Plus the coffee in the lobby (fresh even at 5 am) was great. Staff were perfectly competent and friendly. For me, visiting at the provincial archives, the location could not have been better.

The bathtub needs to be resurfaced.
Across the street from Beacon Hill Park. Easy walk into town or Dallas Road and the ocean. Very convenient to have a kitchen in the room.

I would have been better if the breakfast and parking was included in the rent as I had to pay extra for the parking on top of $200 which is quite expensive altogether for just one night stay in a small space.
It was very clean.

Spaces were good sized. The floor was clean and not old, stone tiles and laminate. Even after the fist night the room was wholly cleaned and stocked new with coffee etc. The kitchen had all that needed to use it. Best hotel stay in a long time.

Can hear upstairs neighbor walking (very loud footsteps) and talking/laughing, it’s not a good thing if they were awake at 2pm…
Nice location, super convenient in downtown; bedding sheet/blanket is comfy - not too heavy nor too light, not to warm nor too cold; large indoor space with bedroom door, feels almost like a small 1br apartment

It is a little noisy at times at night. I believe there is a Fire Station close by and that woke us up.

We would have appreciated a couple of towel racks or hooks in the bathroom as it was small and there was nowhere to hang small towels and washcloths.
We had a suite with a kitchen and it was well stocked and very comfortable.

Last time we visited, couple of years back, the room we had was spacious. This room was located in what is now the older part of the property. This time, in the newer part of the hotel, the room was cramped, dinky; the bathroom especially so. We could barely move around in it. Overall, the room was a very poorly designed use of space, oddly angular and claustrophobic. The sole object seeming to be to cram as many units into one floor as possible. Parking now costs. This wasn't the case last visit.
Location tremendous. Within reasonable walking distance of everything. Property is well maintained and clean. Onsite parking availability wasn't a problem. Calm, quiet location. Dutiful, satisfactory staff.
