Room wasn't cleaned found a sock, and the coffee pot wasn't emptied. The owner wasn't at the front desk and when my cell phone died I couldn't get a hold of him to check in.

Location was 8 mins away from where I was working. And close to the beach to go for a nice run.

I had a tough time getting the water warm enough for a shower. I understand its a historic hotel. Would have liked a hair dryer in the room

There was no food service, I had to walk out to find morning coffee. There was no chair in my room. The bathroom was cold and unheated, and the lighting was poor. The building as a whole was unheated and smelled musty. Travellers should be aware that there appeared to be no elevator.

It is a very interesting old hotel in a historic neighbourhood; it was like a museum. The owner was extremely welcoming and helpful. The bed and linens were fresh and comfortable. There was convenient parking. There were restaurants in walking distance.

The rooms were simply adorned but meet our needs for a one night stay. It is an old hotel, currently going through some room updates but we had a good night’s sleep here.

We had the warmest greeting from the desk manager who also gave us an interesting account of the building’s interesting history. Fascinating photos from the hotel and environs decorate the lobby and hallway walls which makes it fun to peruse.

There was little hot water so showering was uncomfortable and only got to lukewarm. There was never a staff member at the desk and to find one was difficult. There was a major mix-up with payment from Booking. com but the hotel manager did call me and try his best to rectify the problem. It meant we had to pay twice until there was closure several weeks later, however.

Location is lovely. Room was comfortable and clean.

A mattress was very firm until we switched rooms. No coffee pot.

What a unique experience! It's like staying at a museum. The lobby reminded me of a western movie with the double staircase and all of the natural wood finishes. The owner was extremely personable and went out of his way to ensure our contentment. Thanks Charlie.

    There isn’t anything I didn’t really like.

I loved the large windows and the view was amazing. The Memorial park has the largest Beach Trees I’ve ever seen. It’s the coolest place. The Lobby is Grand. A Diamond in the rough. It was like being transported in time. Oh, and very clean. The room was big and spacious.

although it was quiet it is beside the pulp mill. Front desk was not manned, just a phone number to call. as my cell phone needed charging it was an issue.

Heritage building. Staff. Staff very good outlining the history of the building. Also I left my glasses and cell phone. I was informed and they were forwarded to me within a couple of days.

It’s an old building and it is showing its age in many ways. That was not at all a problem for us. There were, however, a few things that could have been improved that would have improved our stay, primarily the mattress. The pillows were very comfortable, but the mattress was HORRIBLE! It was hard and uncomfortable and we both tossed and turned and woke with bad backs and sore hips. Perhaps even worse, was the terrible scrunching/crunching sound that it would make every time you moved an inch. I have never experienced a mattress quite as awful.

We loved the feel of the hotel. We didn’t know the history of the place when we booked it, but loved learning that it was the first commercial building in Powell River and built in 1911. The hotel does a great job of showcasing this history with historical photographs on the walls and antique items displayed throughout. There were several bookcases of books (presumably for guests to borrow) and a cozy seating area. We spent some time wandering through the lobby checking out the artifacts and photos. It felt almost like a museum. We really enjoyed the historic feel of the place and it seemed like the owners were proud of that aspect of this hotel.

It is a very old building and there was a permeating musty smell to the whole hotel. The bed mattresses were not comfortable (but the linens and floors and furniture were immaculate). The location was in the old, historic area and a distance from most restaurants and sightseeing. Well, in a small town, distance is relative.

This is a very old historic building and is filled and furnished with genuine antiques of the period - even in the bedrooms. After the surprise of seeing something entirely different than we expected from the booking info, we were just delighted to be there. If history is not an interest for guests it would have been very disappointing. We loved it and were actually sorry we could not book another night or too, as our plans were too set. We loved the history told to us by an older, local staff member. (It seemed that the management of the hotel was being taken over by new people perhaps not as knowledgeable.
