Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThere was sweetcorn in the sink. The rooms are quite hot and the road is quite noisy. Despite this i slept well, the bed was comfortable.
The staff were brilliant and helped us make the most of a whirlwind visit to Basel. We liked the refurbished industrial buildings, the cool vibe, the plants and the local bar

United KingdomSlight difficulty upon check-out. I was asked to pay the city tax a second time (I had paid upon arrival) by a second member of staff - the first member of staff had not made a note that I had already paid. Had an older age demographic and atmosphere than other hostels which wasn't to my taste. Cat on the premises which was fine by me but might bother others.
Stayed in an 8 bed female dorm. Good bathroom and shower facilities. Good storage facility in rooms, including lock provided. Breakfast offered for an additional fee - however, I did not choose this, so I can not comment on quality. Kitchen area available to use.

SpainThe price is really high for what is being offered (a shared room with shared bathrooms).
There was a fully equipped kitchen as well as a big dining table. We were given a public transportation card for travel within the city, which was pretty well connected. We stayed in an 8 person room and the bunk beds were super tall, which was great for being able to sit on the lower bed. The stairs for getting up to the upper bunk were also comfortable, and there were a lot of sockets available.

New ZealandI love how airy the place was, the location to the central train / bus station. The lift for heavy bags was great / I had a bottom double bunk bed. The showers had great pressure and the kitchen was fully equipped. The bus stop and tan stops were right outside. A large supermarket were close too.

United KingdomThe bed wasn't the most comfortable, but it was OK. Shared bathroom was basic but perfectly fine for us.
Exceptional staff, going above and beyond and being super helpful and accommodating. The room was a great size, and had a fan for the warm evenings. Easy to walk to from the station and good transport links to the centre,.

United KingdomThe room smelled a bit sweaty.
The original decor was nice, including the plants. The room had large windows letting through a lot of light, and ventilation. Curtains could be pulled to keep the room dark. The showers were hot and with good pressure.

BulgariaThey don’t provide any towels that you can use in the shower, also my bed didn’t have an easily accessible charging port and I had to crawl under the bed to find one, that didn’t look quite safe - it was coming off of the wall and the cables were showing but thankfully it worked and didn’t cause any trouble.
The beds were nice and felt quite private compared to other hostels. Staff was very friendly and they even provided me with a Basel city card that helped me use the public transport free of charge during the stay.

GermanyVery hot, no proper ventilation in the rooms. Terribly hot....if you would put vents from the rooms to the hallway so when the window is open in the room, there will be a cross breeze..and would be much cooler Also, could use USB chargers in the room. It was a very nice hostel. But the lack of ventilation in the rooms made it very uncomfortable to be in.
It was a very nice Hostel. The bunks were large. Good location.

SwitzerlandThe upper bunk beds don't have access to sockets so a bit difficult to charge your phone at night. I saw a fan but not sure how hot it will get in the summers. Please also note you need to bring all your own toiletries as there is not even shampoo or soap in the showers.
I loved the ambience and the place was clean and tidy. The rooms were adequately-sized with bunkbeds and clean sheets. They can also provide towels for rent. The location is right next to tram and bus stops which can easily take you to the city center.

United KingdomThere was no lift up to the room. There were only table lamps in the main room so the room was gloomy. Noise from room above. The rain was also very heavy and made a lot of noise on the rain shelter.
Big room with a hammock. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very close to tram stop into Basel. We had a private room with its own bathroom.

IsraelThe room was a bit hot. Blankets and pillows were small. Overall nothing wrong, I'm being very petty.
The rooms are spacious for a hostel, and clean. I am referring to the double private rooms, not shared-beds dorms. The shower and bathroom, although outside the rooms, were also spacious, and private!! There were 8 rooms or so, and 3 showers (with private doors, unlike the dorms part where they only have 1 shower room with no privacy and 3 showers in it). Big plus for me. So if you plan to stay, I highly recommend to not take the dorm rooms, take the private rooms with ot without shared bathroom. I added a picture of the shared shower. Switzerland is expensive, and this hostel privided value for low price. Also outside the hostel is tram 15, bus 36, and it's close to main station SBB. Staff were friendly. Check in/out was easy.
