Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaI didn’t have an issue with anything.
Sometimes you see these high scores and become doubtful, but this place is legit. It is in such a perfect area if your goal is the Great Wall. Quiet and so cute. I was the only one there so it was about but I can’t wait to go back. She offers meals so that takes out the hassle of where you’re going to eat. It’s really good food. Bring cash to pay if you don’t have any of the payment apps that are used all over Beijing. This is a must stay.

I came during late Autumn which apparently is the low season and I have the entire place to myself, besides the lady staff and the three lovely cats. The cheapest and most convenient way to get to the property is to take Beijing 980 快 bus from Donzhimen transportation hub to Miyun 密云 bus terminal (last stop). Journey time about one and half hour. You can use your Beijing Transport store value card to tap in and out of the bus. Fare is around RMB10. Walk to the other side of the road and wait for Mi 密25 mini bus at the bus stop for the bus to Gubeikou. Journey time another one and half hour and fare less than RMB 10. Get down just outside the twin road tunnels to Gubeikou town. Walk along SiCao 司曹 road in the direction of Gubeishuizhen for about 5 minutes and you will see a wooden sign and a small path leading downhill to the entrance. I was lucky to have a Chinese lady to guide me who got down at the same stop. The town is very quiet at night and during the day and so you might want to consider ordering the vegetarian dinner offered by the property. RMB65 per person and please order in advance. I brought along my own stuff for breakfast which the staff didn't mind I consumed at the living)dinning room area. I was allowed to use the kettle to make instant coffee. The entrance to the wild Great Wall is through the reconstructed city gate at the other end of the village, about 5 minutes walk away. There is a charge on entering the trail but because it is the low season, there is no one on duty. The shorter trail leads to three watch towers. One has been reconstructed to house communication transmitters. The other longer trail which is the Simatai (可馬台) section is more rugged and the watch towers are further away. Here the Great Wall is left as it is. On some pathway you are walking on a narrow path on the wall itself or on the ridge line and there are no barriers.

This hostel is consistently exceptional! During my second visit, the service quality remained impressively high. The staff, incredibly friendly, accommodated our group of 5 in a dorm designed for 4, adding a comfortable extra mattress. The cozy atmosphere, from comfy sofas to heated Japanese toilet seats, makes it feel like home. Plus, the food is incredibly delicious. I just love this place and will definitely come back in the future!

United KingdomIt was perfectly suitable for what we needed, not so many restaurants and things near by, but that’s not what we came for.
Great location for hiking the Gubeikou Great Wall. We went from Gubeikou to jinshanling sections, a long hike, but the views were amazing. Good food and friendly staff, including the cats. Overall a lovely stay and a really memorable part of our trip.

United KingdomWe had such a wonderful stay - The Great Wall Box House is run by the kindest woman who will look after you so well! She is a fantastic cook - we had delicious fried doughnuts, fresh coffee and vegetarian meals. The bedroom and shared bathroom were super clean and comfortable - we slept like the dead! It’s an easy 5 minute walk through the village to the big gate, where you can then get up onto the wall, and walk for as long as you feel like. The views are spectacular and we didn’t bump into a single other visitor in about 4 hours. The cats at the hotel are such characters - very friendly and cuddly and a joy to play with. They were a big bonus! This is the perfect place to go from Beijing for a night or two on the Great Wall!

A wonderful little guest house. I would definitely go back. Super cute, quiet, clean and very calm. The village is quite nice to have a little walk, and it is very close to the great wall. We had a fun hike with two kids ages 5 & 8, and we all loved it. The guest house serves a nice breakfast, and we had good Chinese food for dinner.

CanadaWe couldn’t figure out the rain shower in our room, but otherwise it was very comfortable and very clean.
The environment is very welcoming and cozy. the staff are warm and friendly, happy to help with any questions you might have. They even picked us up late in the evening from Gubei and drove us back the following day. It is a short hike to a beautiful section of the Great Wall, very few people on the wall and lots of wild sections. The staff helped us plan our route the night before. When we returned we had a nice lunch in the lobby.

Great location, close to Great Wall North Entrance. The dinner tasted delicious. The noodle breakfast was great too! This accomodation pretty much has all the basic things you need (towel, hairdryer, etc) It's warm, clean and the floor is heated! The host were amazing and kind, even before my stay, I have been asking her around the area to prep for my trip and she's been very helpful! Bonus: you can see great wall from the property!

ItalyThe house was very clean, and although they had three beautiful big cats, the whole property was free of cat odors (which I really appreciated, as I am quite sensitive to smells). The location was good, very close to the great wall (they pick you up at the Gubei bus stop station, so very convenient). They also offered home made meals: only vegeratian food options, but delicious (we had both lunch and dinner there). The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay there.
