Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The absence of a fridge in the room. Tea/coffee facilities were available on request. We understood that the hotel is undertaking renovations.
Excellent location and very helpful staff. There was an issue with our room, which couldn't be fixed, and along with apologies for the inconvenience, we were given a pack of wine and delicious biscuits. The consideration of the staff was appreciated as we had left an unacceptable Airbnb booking early to check into Le Grand Hotel.

I can't really think of anything that I didn't like.
Check-in was fine. In fact, the receptionist was happy to let my practice my somewhat limited French. I appreciated the chance to use my French. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast the following morning was good - with a wide choice of food available. Le Grand Hotel's location was very convenient. It was just a few minute's walk away from Strasbourg's main railway station.

Room a bit outdated especially bathroom. No minibar or coffee maker in the room.
Central location next to the main station. Old town and attractions are within walking distance.

Aircon didn't work but got around that by opening the window.
Opposite the main Salzburg rail station and walking distance to the old town, the location was excellent. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations but still provided a good service. The breakfast was good and the hotel provided luggage storage. Also, there were no problems waiting in foyer area for our train following checkout.

The parking is too far away from the hotel and not really related to the hotel. They have only a coorporation with an external parking garage. The breakfast was not very impressive…

We went at the busiest time and therefore did not have the best breakfast experience. But this does not mean anything.
We had a great stay at Le Grand Hotel. The location is extremely comfortable to reach the train station as well as the beautiful city center. The bed was super cozy and the beautiful new rooms were equipped with isolated windows to ensure a good sleep even in the central area. The staff was amazing. Especially Jennifer did an extremely good job by being super friendly multi-tasking in buy situations and providing great customer service at the same time. Thank you!

The noise! I was wakened at 5am by cleaning staff trundling industrial bins at the back of the hotel. I was advised that this only happened once each week and it wouldn’t happen again. However, it occurred again 2 days later at 6am.

Pity the hotel has no bar.
Very lovely spacious room on 7th floor with view across the city. Charming staff both at reception (welcome and in the evenings) and at breakfast. Excellent breakfast with good choices.

the breakfest was announced as exeptional - the food was ok but a really small variety of food so we were quite disappointed, quite old furniture - the picutres on the website are not what we had

There was no iron/hairdryer in the room, but maybe one could borrow them from reception (we did not need them and thus did not ask).
The hotel offers a great quality-price ratio; the room was small but clean and cozy, perfectly sufficient for a night, and the breakfast was very tasty. The location could not have been more perfect for us travelling by train too.
