The hotels in this area are more expensive so I would conclude you get what you pay for.

Room location. #5 is a very poorly located room. You could hear doors closing, people speaking in the lobby morning and night and the constant double ring of the doorbell from7am on. The main door is always locked so you either have a key or ring the bell. We have stayed in the Cumberland before and the rooms in the adjoining building are much quieter. Room placement is just the luck of the draw but the attitude of the manager should be addressed and can be improved. Our situation required her assistance. When we arrived we were offered breakfast which required to be paid upfront. We were not informed that it was unrefundable verbally nor was it stated in print. We then had a visit with our family (the purpose of our trip) and they insisted we join them for breakfast. We told the evening clerk who would then pass the message to the manager. In the morning she was very rude and unpleasant and refused to refund even though there was nothing stating the breakfast was unrefundable. The amount was 70 pounds.

No walls separating the reception desk and landing with rooms, so when a large number of guests checked in at midnight it woke us up. The guests themselves weren't the problem, the issue lay with the staff member greeting them who had no consideration of their volume given the hour.

Room was well sized, short walk from Haymarket.

I got a room directly adjacent to the reception, which was a bit negative in terms of privacy and noise. A bit of walk to the city centre.

Nice, calm, small hotel a bit outside the busy city centre of Edinburgh. Nice buildings, nice rooms and nice area, solid breakfast

Too pricey for the room. The room was a bit small.

Location was good because it was near airport and also near city center, also the hotel is in front of a bus stop which made it very easy to get around. Also cameras everywhere and nice staff which made us feel safe. Cleanliness was nice.

The room provided to me is close to the reception, making it very difficult for me to sleep. The noise was very disturbing, there is also some noise coming from above. I didn't quite sleep well during my stay

The location, proximity to centre and the conference centre I had to go to. Breakfast was continental, and the selection was good Commute to and from the airport was easy The bathroom and the bed were very neat and tidy

The lights at the side of the bed didn't seem to work. The tea and coffee supplies ran out quickly, but it was easy to ask the reception staff for more. It was very windy during our stay and one of the window blew open overnight. The window catch wasn't very secure.

The parking facilities were good, but cost more that I expected. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was good and at the back of the hotel which cut down on traffic noise. I would stay there again.

There was no lift (that I saw) so if you've got mobility issues then I would advise asking for a room on the lower floors. Due to being in an attic room, the ceiling was low (especially in the bathroom) so be mindful if you're quite tall. I didn't see a lot of staff, but it thankfully wasn't so busy that it was too much to deal with (the receptionist also seemed to be dealing with the breakfast service). I would have loved for the cooked breakfast to be a buffet-style, but I understand why it wasn't - not a negative point because it can be changed, but you will need to select a time you're going down for breakfast rather than just turning up. We found a previous guests' dusty sock underneath the TV/dresser when we were packing to go home so that was pretty funny.

The location is good for a visiting the city, with it being around a 15-20 walk into the centre or a short bus ride from the stop outside - the hotel is not badly priced for what you get. The room and separate bathroom was clean, well-equipped and even quaint and but if you run out of tea/coffee and milk, the staff are happy to restock for you. Breakfast was lovely and the continental was a buffet-type service so you could help yourself to toast, cereals, etc. There was a safety policy where they lock the door after a certain time so you're reassured in the fact that only guests and staff can come in after hours.
