Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe entrance to the gardeners cottage we stayed in was dirty. Full of cobwebs, which had clearly been there some time. There were also bottles of cleaning products left on the window sill. The Library where we went for drinks in the afternoon had loads of dirty plates and glasses in it. There was a large scale function taking place which meant some areas were no-go, it also impacted parking. I had emailed ahead about using the EV charger, but non EV cars were parked literally anywhere they could (including grass verges) due to the large number of people attending the conference i assume, so I was unable to charge as there is no clear signage to discourage anyone parking in a charging spot.
The dinner in the main restaurant was of a very good quality, and the service was superb. The room itself was nice once inside

We were in the stables block, a short walk from the main Hall. It was like having a little cottage in the country. The large, tastefully furnished room was warm and comfortable with a spacious, well equipped ensuite. The private garden was immaculate and parking for the stable block was nearby. The grounds and nearby lake are great for walks.

United KingdomWe have stayed at Doxford three times now and have never been disappointed.
The breakfast was as expected for a 4star hotel. The staff were very accommodating to serve an unvoiced cream tea for ourselves and four family guests.

Location of hotel is central to area, with easy access. Breakfast was filling and had a wide choice of food.

United KingdomThe location was in the middle of the country and there are pot holes all the way from the motorway. The drive way entrance of the hotel was full of pot holes. It was very muddy walking from the car to the reception in the building.
Hotel was wonderful, clean and very tidy. Breakfast was delightful served hot.

United KingdomI just think the overall place looks like it needs some serious TLC inside, we where sat having a few drinks in a lounge area before heading the lounge area had a lovely glass roof but in the corner of the ceiling it looks like it was crumbling from water damage quite a large patch, overall some spots in the hotel felt dirty as in surface dirt was gone but needed a good deep clean getting right in the corners sort of thing, the toilets felt really unclean and grubby. The whole place could do with a more modern decor overhaul felt very dated everywhere you looked and nothing really matched?
Our room (no.36) was a brilliant size, very clean and comfy and quiet. Amenities in the room where great loved the Ringtons refreshments, the location of the room seems really odd however sort of as if it wasn't originally a room for hotel guests but now turned in to one that being said we actually quite liked it, felt like we had our own private quarters. Breakfast in the morning was lovely, my husband said it was the nicest black pudding he's had on an full English, my avocado on toast was just as nice, staff where lovely in there on the morning.

United KingdomThe likes definitely outweigh the dislikes so don't be put off by this review. As is often the problem with booking.com the room we booked was not the room we got. To clarify, the photos illustrating the room on the site showed a roll top bath while the room we got was a more standard hotel bathroom. Although the bathroom was nice it wasn't up to the standard of the rest of the experience, but it was adequate. There were other details of the room that we felt were a little underwhelming such as the room's tea and coffee facilities and the tv location but neither of these were deal breakers. Also, we found it odd that the room wasn't fitted with a safe as you would expect in a hotel of this standard. The only other thing that was disappointing was the availability of spa treatments. We had a lovely brochure of spa experiences in the room but when it came to booking a massage or a manicure they didn't have any available appointments for a month.
Doxford hall is a period property, Georgian and Victorian, which has been added to with a period style extension. There is an opulent feel to both house and grounds. There are some lovely original period features with breakout rooms such as the library that can be enjoyed by guests The staff were very welcoming, helpful, and polite. Our room was generously sized with period styling and a huge bed that was very comfortable. The food was excellent as was the whole dining experience, candlelit dinner was a nice touch. The house keeping was also excellent and the hotel was clean and for the most part well maintained. It was also good to have access to the spa swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

United KingdomRestaurant dinner menu did not change. We stayed 4 nights. Choice was acceptable, but anyone staying longer may struggle with the restrictive choice. Cocktail bar had some strange omissions . For example Kir,and Kir Royal not available, yet champange by the glass was available for afternoon tea.
Room was spacious and tastefully furnished Public rooms were also spacious and well furnished Dinner was "fine dining", and well presented. Choice off a slightly cheaper menu also available Leisure Complex was good
