Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomSmall room.
Cosy place and location. Went for a nice walk to the town with some nice scenic views. Room was small but nice, good bathroom facilities. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and of high standards.

United KingdomRooms very hot, with no lighter / summer bedding options - just a thick duvet - and a "bearskin" rug and cushions on the bed in August! odd that the only room with a walk in shower - for someone with limited mobility, should be on the first floor, with no lift in the building. To be fair, we did know this when we booked - so not a complaint - but accessibility issues should be improved.
Milsom's is in a good location and pleasant grounds. Excellent selection for breakfast and a good dinner menu that had plenty of tasty options. Staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms comfortable.

United KingdomHonesty can’t fault it. My husband didn’t enjoy this starter at dinner, which was too spicy. That’s it! The only reason not a 10/10 was the slightly more chaotic lunch service on Saturday.
Brilliant staff, a warm welcome and very relaxed feel throughout our stay. We were there to meet family who were travelling to meet us. It was perfect.

United KingdomBreakfast as mentioned above
Beautiful location, charming staff. Great dinner and good wine. Breakfast was just OK, if we had paid the £27.50 as on the menu, I would of been very unhappy. Limited buffet , some good egg options cooked, but just ordinary.

United KingdomGrab rail into the bath would have been welcome.
Lovely hotel. The location was great, easy to find just off of the A12 but near to Dedham village and the River Stour for a country walk. Room was very comfortable and the air conditioning very efficient. Public areas very nice. We found all the staff very pleasant and accommodating. We were especially pleased and would like to highlight the excellent service we received from a member of the bar staff (sorry didn’t get his name) for getting us nightcaps after the bar had closed and we had arrived back later than expected from a concert. He also showed genuine interest in our evening.

United KingdomThe A12 is within earshot of the hotel, so you can hear the cars going by during the day if you open the window. We were placed in room 14, right by the fire/staff exit, which made a lot of noise during the day, which wasn't ideal when the baby was trying to nap. The interior is a bit 'tired' and in need of a face-lift, as other reviewers have commented. The £35 pet fee was not mentioned when booking the room and a bit steep comparing to other hotels.
The hotel is located right next to a river with a lovely river walk that one can take all the way to Dedham. The food at the hotel restaurant was fantastic! The staff were also incredibly friendly.

United KingdomThere was only one thing we didn't like. There was a couple in the restaurant wearing baseball caps but this was obviously nothing to do with the Hotel.
We liked everything. The room was spacious, comfortable and had a beautiful view of their wonderful tree in the garden. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive. They was extremely trustworthy as I accidentally left my phone in the toilets and also cash in the room. They contacted me by phone and I went back to collect. Very impressed.
