The Monty's restaurant/pub is not up to the standard of the hotel. It is really the negative of our stay. Everything else is so perfect. The hotel deserves a cozy restaurant with good food and nice pub. I know there is the Terrace restaurant. But the Monty's is cold, there is a strong smell (from a candle or interior perfume) which is not enjoyable, and unfortunately the food is not very good. With simple but good food, and a cozy interior at Monty's, this would have been the absolute perfect stay.

The garden is amazing, the new garden rooms are spacious and beautiful. The staff is lovely.

Pricey. The get what you pay for mantra has put pressure on everyone. I don’t think this establishment is any worse than others. Make sure you don’t go if a wedding is on.

We love the staff. The location to enjoy the New Forest is excellent. We have visited many times over the last 15 years and will always come back.

That I couldn't stay longer

The staff were exceptional, all of them. The location was great, walked to Bucklers hard from hotel. Grounds were so well kept and a lovely area to sit out. The room was warm and bed was comfy. It had a lovely ambience about the whole place.

Charging for full English Breakfast should have been included I think. Always seems like a little background music needed in the main house to improve atmosphere

The menu options at the Terrace were perhaps 1-2 dishes to limited (could have done with a more basic meat / steak option), however this is being picky.

The service was excellent. Initially the room we were given was sub standard, however it was changed without question and the replacements were very very good. Having recognised the mistake, to a person, every staff member treated us amazingly well. The Courtyard Retreat we had on the second night was excellent and a reason to go back in itself. The Terrace restaurant was really good and breakfasts top quality with excellent local produce

The shower had no door which meant that the floors would get wet and also it didn’t drain properly.

Everything was lovely. The staff were exceptional, the rooms and common areas spotless, the food was nice and the overall atmosphere was friendly and relaxed.

Nice new and clean bathroom but shower didn’t drain proper, wet room style bathroom but the floor not sloped enough so loads of water just sits by the sink. Sandwiches in the pub next door were ridiculously expensive for what you got - basically Hovis style sliced bread and a few crisps on the side for £11.

Staff are amazing. Lovely warm welcome at reception, knowledgeable bar man that made great cocktails and great waiting staff in the restaurant. The food in the main terrace restaurant was fantastic. Comfortable, quiet and and clean room.

The breakfast, the breakfast was meant to be included and given the price you pay it should be a full cooked breakfast. We were not informed that the cooked options were a supplement and promptly ordered cooked options only to be billed upon leaving. This left a little bit of a bad taste in the mouth…… come on Montagu I think you are charging customers enough already to include some bacon in the morning!!

The main bar was a disappointment and so was the food.

It is not the case of not liking rather a couple of points - these however did not affect our stay and make it bad. I booked a Four Poster Bed, Superior room which we did not have. However, we were tired from working all day and wanted to relax and take a shower and get ready for dinner. It was shame as this stay was for my husbands birthday. When I booked the table for dinner I was asked if it was a special occasion which I said yes, my husbands birthday. I dod not know what the policies are at the hotel but when I've stayed in other hotels a special effort was made in some way to acknowledge this. When were at dinner, another table was asked if it was a special occasion but we were not asked and I did not want to upset or cause a fuss. When we checked out I was told my booking was online and did not include breakfast, however as I showed the lady my booking, it clearly stated 4 poster superior with breakfast included. She was very helpful and did not charge me anything etc. and was very nice.

The Hotel was lovely and what I expected. The staff were friendly and we had no issues. The parting gift bag was a nice idea and appreciated. We ate in the terrace restaurant and the food was fabulous. Although I have mentioned a couple of areas for imrpovement we would definatly stay here again.
