Food for the price and hotel quality was poor. Some areas of hotel were in poor condition ripped wall paper etc. The hand shower in my room sounded like it was going to blow up when I turned it on. A bit more TLC around the place and separate bar would have been a 10 out of 10!

Room was big and spacious the staff were all professional and courteous.

Bed was too small, mattress was uncomfortable and no water provided in the room (over £4 at the bar/restaurant).

Good location and not too expensive - the half board option was really good value with breakfast and dinner included.

    • Double Room - Disability Access
    • Stayed 2 nights

There was no view from the window, which we were advised about on check in, and we discovered it was actually a fire escape. We requested a disabled room, and the bed was far too small for a couple, especially one who has mobility problems as it was fitted between shelving which made it very difficult to access the shelf to put a cup on. There was also a shelf at the back which we kept banging our heads on. I came away with several bruises on my arms from turning over during the night and banging into the sides of the cupboards.

Breakfast was good, and plentiful, one of our party was gluten intolerant and gluten free muesli was available and bread was supplied on request. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Evening meal was very good the steak was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. The heating wouldn’t work but on approaching the reception the manager went above and beyond to remedy the problem. All in all the Shendish Manor was a great place to stay the staff are a credit to the company and what niggles we had were put right very quickly. Special mention must go to the manager who was on duty on the afternoon of 22nd April, who, while training two new colleagues, still managed to take time out to support us with our problems and remedy them.

The first key card did not work, and the operation of the key cards in the doors is a bit hit and miss. Its a long walk back to reception when the key card does not work. There is a small symbol on the card identifying which way round to insert it, but the staff did not explain this until questioned.

Some previous reviews said the decor was a bit tired. I did not find it so. The room I had was very well refurbished, and well maintained. The main hall and reception are decorated in a manner reminiscent of a club, which is entirely appropriate for a country house built in Victorian times, with gardens laid out by a famous designer of that period. Its a bit remote, since the adjoining village is very small, so the half board deal is in my view good value.

There were no negatives.from our experience.

Loved the old world feeling of the hotel and the gardens , etc were fab. We didn’t have breakfast as it starts at 7 & we had to be-on the road before 6:30. We had nice bar food the night before and a couple of drinks, all very good. For an older Manor house it was nice and cosy. Our room was spacious & spotless and in the main house, which I preferred. My husband was happy with the private parking so near the Manor, one of the reasons we didn’t book a Premier Inn/Travel Lodge.

Our rooms looked very old and in need of a refresh the furniture looks very worn and damaged the divan bases were on show and look very old and worn the shower over the bath is very outdated. We have been to another stately home where there are modern walk in showers I just think these details let it down unfortunately.

The fact it was a stately home, the beds were very comfortable and had a good nights sleep. The breakfast was great.
