The bedroom was a clean but a little tired. The bathroom fan didn’t work and the light above the wash basin didn’t.

A great location in Borrowdale. Staff were all friendly, helpful and professional. The dinners were very good.

Our bathroom, especially the shower, was very small and the shower took ages to get hot. Our room as advertised, didn’t have a view and was quite dim in daylight. All movement upstairs was audible.

The location is stunning, the views from the breakfast room are beautiful. Breakfast is ordered on the website and was very good. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Easy to get to Keswick.

Wanted to book dinner, but the set menu was very 'chefy' and with no other options nearby it was a bit of a trek into town to find food on a busy Sat evening. I know its aiming for michelin stars but it offers very little flexibility for guests.

Lovely historic hotel room, full of character with modern amenities. Lovely superking bed that was nice and firm (which I prefer) and nice seating area looking out over the beautiful lakes.

Dinner is a set 4-5 course meal which rotates every 3 days. We ate on 2 of our 4 nights. It was good but not fancy and we both enjoyed our meals. The wines were reasonably priced. There was a good choice at Breakfast (which had to be ordered the night before) My room was well equipped and warm with a view towards Derwent Water and Keswick, However, the heating my friend's room was not sufficient. The radiator came on but it was not big enough to heat the room properly. The hotel, set back from the road, has a peaceful, relaxed air and the staff were very pleasant and obliging. The grounds are well kept.

The bed was double not king, so quite small and the room was incredibly hot over night. Because it was pouring with rain, we couldn’t open the window and couldn’t see how to turn the heating down. The bedding and furnishings smelt very ‘beddy’.

A lovely, oldy worldy, country house with period- appropriate furnishings and decor in a beautiful valley location. There really was a sense of easy opulence about the communal rooms that made you feel that you were dipping into and living in the house of a local rich landowner! The evening meal in the dining room was sublime. We let them know we were pescatarian well before we arrived and our menu was geared around this. It probably was one of the best meals we’ve ever eaten. And our host, of Irish/Swedish/African heritage was fantastic - so informative, helpful and jolly good company. Excellent (albeit it pricey) evening. But as a one-off, well worth it.

I can't tolerate some milks and asked if Skimmed could be provided we were advised yes in both room and for breakfast sadly I didn't take my own and should have as we got there and no skimmed milk was provided at all upsetting and caused some problems but never mind

we liked everything Mark met us on arrival and told us everything we needed to know, The whole building was just lovely and we would recommend and would return as the room was really lovely and bed comfortable and very clean

The shower enclosure didn’t keep the spray from the shower in so the bathroom got pretty wet!
