Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomI stayed at the Master Builders back in 1974 and had wonderful memories. I was keen to take my wife for a romantic birthday night away and revisit Bucklers Hard and the forest. Our room was perfect, a large and wonky room with oak beams and views across the river. After a pleasant meal and lovely evening walk we found ourselves drawn to the pub and the brilliant musicians who had drinkers dancing and singing along. A wonderful night of sleep followed by a great English cooked breakfast. Going back in November if not sooner.

United KingdomThe quality of food was very high, very well presented and delicious. The room was comfortable with some thoughtful welcoming touches. We particularly liked the radio tuned to Jazz FM and cookies in a jar next to the bed. All staff were polite, courteous and helpful. We had a lovely stay.

United KingdomBreakfast - a few mistakes / errors, a bath would have been a lovely addition to our room. Both small things
Nice hotel beautifully set over the river and great outdoors for sunny weather and drinks. We didn’t have dinner at the hotel which is meant to be highly rated, but the breakfast was generous in terms of options but there were a few mistakes with our personal orders. But overall a lovely stay in a beautiful location

United KingdomThe room was a little dark. On our walk up river there was a shoot taking place: my dog is gun shy so we had to turn back. If I come again it will have to be out of the shooting season!
I have stayed here before and it was a favourite with my parents, too. Love the comfortable room, the food, the history, the proximity of the river, the walks, the friendly staff and the fact I could bring my dog.

United KingdomSlightly disappointed in our Sunday lunch - lot of beef fat served on the plate which we felt unnecessary. Also lack of care in serving our evening snack of focaccia bread. One of the restaurant managers was also coughing a lot and quite sweary.
Room was fab, view and facilities.

United KingdomThe attention to detail on the service provided. The stay was expensive but we had to chase the housekeeping team to replenish items in our room for 3 night stay. Breakfast staff were not proactive in checking guests self service foods were available.
Location and we had stayed there several times before.

United KingdomThe TV could have been easier to understand. Also we found the lighting in the room was a bit dim.
Breakfast was excellent. Room 3 had a tv set, but once a picture came on it seemed impossible to get any channels, so we gave up! The location was first class.

United KingdomTiny things! Orange juice at breakfast clearly from a supermarket box - would love real freshly squeezed juice. And breakfast coffee was a bit weak. Otherwise all very, very good and would recommend.
A wonderful 18th century building on the banks of the River Beaulieu. Food was excellent, both dinner in Henry's Bar (there is a more expensive restaurant) and breakfast. Staff were fantastic and clearly well trained in delivering quality service but not too closely attentive - lovely people.

United KingdomThe very old building felt a little tired. I think they are in the process of carrying out some works and it will benefit from some TLC, If i returned I would book a room in the new wing.

United KingdomThe restaurant service at dinner was rather slow, we waited above twenty minutes between the main and dessert courses. At breakfast we again waited ages for service, and the coffee was so strong that I had to request extra milk to dilute it. No milk in the bedrooms for an early morning cup of tea.
Everything went well, we were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much. The ambience was lovely, set in such a charming and historic area. Everyone we met (including at the museum) was hospitable and friendly.

United KingdomAny criticism would be nit-picking, but since the question is asked: box of tissues in the room would be useful, the coffee machine didn't turn itself off and so overflowed (we reported this, so it has probably been fixed). Oh, and the weather was appalling, but I don't think there was much the hotel could do about that!
Friendliness of staff, attractiveness of room and location generally, little extra touches like noticing it was our birthday and communicating it to restaurant staff so that we got a suitably "birthday" dessert with candle. Free room upgrade due to recent cancellation.

United KingdomValue for money. The room was very basic and too clinical for a "historic" hotel. Never got a feeling of style or cosyness. Facilities are minimal. For the price, one would expect some sort of Spa facilities. Jacuzzi, massage, etc. We stay in many hotels across the world and were rather underwhelmed. The hotel has everything, but nothing is special. The foyer is gorgeous, but that doesn't transfer into the rooms of the Henry Adams wing. The car park is extremely noisy with the pebbles as the surface. Opening the windows for fresh air was annoying with the noise coming from the car park.
Food good The lounge at the fireplace was good Staff is really friendly Cleaning ladies were a laugh a minute, really good conversation and laughter with them.
