Ground floor which meant we couldn't open a window through the night and the room was very very hot. Made it a little uncomfortable.

    Great location. Lovely staff.

Room was very dated and shabby - lots of peeling paint and wallpaper. Dusty. Several light bulbs weren't working.

Being upgraded to superior room which meant we didn't have to walk down the road to another building. Historic building. Plenty of space. Four-poster bed. Beautiful grounds. Good location - easy to walk into market town.

    Nice location but needs TLC

It’s one of those places that could be great but it needs TLC. Many shelves or alcoves or furniture around the building either have clutter or dust or both. Cleaning stuff and old carpets piled up, furniture paint chipped or with paint spatter on. Menu very basic, would be great to have some specials.

The location is perfect for walking into the town. Plenty of parking. Building and grounds are beautiful.

When our room was serviced the cups and glasses weren’t washed and the tea wasn’t stocked up.

The room was very quirky and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast on first day very good second day not quite as good the sausages were a bit over done, we had dinner on Saturday evening roast lamb versus good value. The staff were excellent.

I didn’t love the carpets in the bathroom, they were a bit smelly after using the shower and I can’t imagine it’s very hygienic.

Location was perfect for exploring Malton. Lovely grounds too.

Of course it would help to have modern fittings particularly in the bathroom but this is an olde world place, quirkiness comes as standard.

Staff were friendly and helpful. We have stayed several times before so knew what to expect.

Hotel definitely needs refurb, looks very tired, just as it did when we visited prior to Covid. We're advised no evening food due to kitchen repairs but that breakfast would be served as usual. However the following morning no one available to cook breakfast. We weren't the only extremely annoyed guests that there was no breakfast chef contingency plan. Young staff were left to deal with the situation as best they could but this is down to poor hotel management/ownership.

Location excellent, short walk into Malton. Simply wonderful building and gorgeous grounds. Plenty parking, able to leave car before and after check in and check out to fit in with our plans.

Very let down by the afternoon tea we booked to our room as the cakes were stale which wasn’t acceptable at all and no clotted cream with the scones, it didn’t look anything like the picture on their website, I did complained and only paid half of the original cost but when your paying a premium for a service this shouldn’t happen Also we came down to breakfast on our second day and we’re waiting to have our order taken when another couple asked the waitress if they could order to which she replied sorry there is only a continental breakfast today as we don’t have a chef but we paid over £400 for our weekend break and a full English was included in this price, again not acceptable and they didn’t offer a refund They should have informed everyone at the door as they arrived for breakfast instead of leaving us all sitting there waiting, again very bad service and there should have been a refund as I only ate gluten free cereal 🤢 and a yoghurt not exactly what you expect from a luxury weekend away

Beautiful room and surrounding gardens and very central to the town centre

Everything needs abit of love. Chipped paint cracked tiles. Rips in the duvet covers. Advertised as a luxury room but not up to standard. Was bought with a full breakfast to find it wasn't available in the morning not even told at check in. I also messaged days before check and was told the restaurant was closed but breakfast would still be served and there was just a muffin and cereal. Wasn't told we could have toast until we had sat for 10 minutes. Really bad service. There were cleaning products on window sills when walking through, staff sat on stairs texting and having to squeeze past to get up stairs. I am a guest and I felt I was in the way and making things inconvenient for just expecting a breakfast and a service that I had paid for. I don't book things like this so this is a luxury. I was sold by looking at the pictures but in reality basic expectations were not met.

Some seats could be lumpy may need upholstering. Pre warning there was no chef on that evening would have been helpful as arrived early evening.

One of our bath towels had human excrement on it. On reporting this to a member of staff, all we got is a verbal apology and a new towel. We didn't expect compensation but least an offer of a drink on the house or something would of been a nice gesture.

Granted it was a period building with restrictions in place for upgrades. However attention needs to be paid to cosmetic maintenance such as peeling wallpaper, stained bedroom carpets, bathroom radiator valve cleanliness, grime build up. Breakfast doesnt start until 8am which is later than other hotels.

Food was fantastic, both evening meals and breakfast. Would have liked self serve toast . Staff were brilliant. Possibly say they were understaffed on the evening we arrived as the same lady had to man the check in desk, the bar and the restaurant. She did a brilliant job but needs support. Breakfast doesnt start until 8am which is later than other hotels, however they were very accommodating and served us from 7:30am as our group needed to check out by 8am.
