Road a bit busy , although windows secondary glazed so noise was not a problem.

Lovely dining room and friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you.

Not keen on the selection of beers in the bar, and I would have liked more choice at breakfast. Nothing really to complain about, and the room was good value but I can't conjure up much enthusiasm.

No complaints. Car parking was easy and convenient, and the situation in the middle of town was great. Dinner was fine and breakfast OK but not especially memorable,

Room 11 has a tiny shower room and a very ineffective shower. Also the bed is lumpy and uncomfortable.

Fab breakfast and welcoming staff. Evening meal was enjoyable for the majority of the group but the duck “special “ was very disappointing.

Some fresh milk would have been good as the room had a fridge, but UHT was provided for the tea/coffee. Not a big deal, we bought some from the petrol station over the road.

We had one of the duplex rooms in what would have been the stables. It was really spacious and good value.

The bathroom had no shelves to put anything on such as tooth brush etc. The light over the mirror did not work so a wet shave was difficult and nowhere to put the razor. No hooks to hang anything up either.

Walls were a bit thin - we could hear the couple in the next room, plus their TV. Decor was a bit 1980's but very clean and comfortable

Very warm welcome. Staff were very friendly. Large bathroom and food sized bedroom. Comfortable bed and lovely oldey worldey feel. Decor was quaintly old-fashioned. Excellent value for money

A handrail in the bath would be useful and rubber mat inside the bath when showering. The traffic outside the hotel was always heavy and noisy with lots of large lotties and farm vehicles.

A large comfortable room. All the food and drink was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are a bit of a mixed bag. Whilst we had a very good room some of the others in our party were not so happy with theirs. The worst was the one that we nicknamed the dungeon because it was separate from the rest of the hotel, accessed by its own doorway to the front of the building and didn't have any natural light because it looked straight out on to a hedge. The lighting in this room was particularly poor. Another room was very small - to open the wardrobe they had to keep moving the chair. The configuration of another room was weird with the bathroom containing wardrobe downstairs and bedroom upstairs. All were very clean.

The staff at the Gaskell Arms were super friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was excellent - we all thoroughly enjoyed our home-cooked Sunday roast with superb puddings. The restaurant was busy every evening and when we tasted the food it was not difficult to see why. My husband and I were allocated a self-catering room which had a kitchen second bedroom and bathroom. The four poster bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of space. Towels were changed daily and there were plenty of supplies of coffee and tea in the room.

Drinks were quite expensive! Breakfast is served very early from 7-9am. We did have breakfast but that was a little early for us. Your not able to check in until 2pm and have to be out by 10am the following morning. Breakfast was 1 sausage, bacon and egg with fried bread! Fried bread was extremely greasy! I missed having beans, mushrooms. Coffee was a bit too bitter.

The suite was spacious, clean. Bedroom was lovely, well decorated, clean. Bed was very comfortable. We slept very well. The downstairs was pleasant, fridge and hot drink facilities. The tv was very small, but we didn’t use it much. Shower was clean, but small. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant! Food was lovely, and reasonably priced. Had a lovely garden area, very big and spacious. Breakfast was okay. States full English but wasn’t really! Although what we had of it was nice.
