Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Felt more like a nice hostel but still a good place :)
Good sized room, comfy beds and clean. Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities but all were clean and well maintained, didn't have to wait to access them at any point. Location is 30 minutes drive north of Dettifoss waterfall. Owner let us know a left item had been found so we could pick it up which was much appreciated.

Some other guests were being loud and disrespectful, so we had to confront them and politely ask to be mindful of quiet time. I would encourage the owners to put on signs inviting guests to be mindful of others - not everyone is polite after all.
Super spacious and quiet room, perfect after a long day of traveling and sightseeing. Fully equipped kitchen perfect to cook a meal at night and spacious/clean shared toilet (particularly those in the right arm of the structure)

The sound proofing might be better. Used earplugs so not a real issue.

Very good noise isolation. We lived with a loud spanish company, but once you closed the room door, nothing could be heard. Heated floors in the bathroom is a great touch. Spacy dining room.

Location to the Asbygi region. The guesthouse has fully updated WCs and kitchen. The rooms are a nice size. The common areas are well designed. We enjoyed lunch on a sunny patio.

Only for the rooms close to the dining room, it was too loud to sleep as people gather there in the evenings and have loud and lengthy dining.
We loved our stay at the Detiffoss Gesuthouse. Everything was great. Modern, clean bathrooms, a great kitchen, and a dining room.

Old hair dryers, of which one of them didn’t work at all. The electric outlet was completely out of the wall and felt bit dangerous. Feels like minor fixes, that would greatly improve the experience.
Great value for the money! Had one of the cosiest showers we’ve been to! Well equipped kitchen!

Maybe the hall carpet could be newest. The doors of the bedrooms also looked pretty old and were pretty noisy. But overall, it's a good accomodation and this mentioned minus just an overview about what can be improved.
Big and clean: rooms, dinning room, kitchen. I highly appreciated the big windows of the bedrooms and the heating floor in the bathrooms.

There's a big well-equipped kitchen, so we could cook for ourselves. The room is big and cozy. Evrth's very clean. The views from the window are so nice! We had a very relaxing stay.

There are many bathrooms which is great for a guesthouse ‘cause most of them has only one. The rooms were clean and spacious. Kitchen has everything you need.

The shared kitchen is relatively small. Not possible for different groups to cook at the same time.

The nicest guesthouse room we had for our whole trip in Iceland. The room was large and comfortable, and thoughtfully appointed with writing desk and large wardrobe. The shared bathrooms were spotless and even had heated floors. Even more, I forgot a jacket at the property and the owner was willing to coordinate with me to ship it back to our home.

No breakfasts—but I knew that in advance, so can’t really complain.
I was met by the owners, who were very nice. Then they left. There were just me and two fellow traveler, out in the middle of nowhere. It was absolutely fine, but a bit weird. Fabulous Northern Lights.
