Very exquisite, clean and cozy. You can see the true traditional Japanese lifestyle, especially when Ms. Nishiyama demonstrated the tea ceremony 🍵 for us, and very patiently guided me to practice. I will come back next time.

I have traveled internationally for work for over 40 years. This was one of the most unique and enjoyable hotel experiences I've ever had. The staff is so friendly, and the Ryokan is so welcoming.

This place is a perfect example of what a ryokan should be! Our yukata were comfortable, breakfast was wonderful- options for both traditional Japanese as well as Western breakfasts depending on your taste, and the tea ceremony is not to be missed! We not only had tea prepared for us, but we were taught to prepare it for our master of ceremony which was unexpected and a real treat. The public bath was very clean and relaxing, with a lovely water feature/garden outside the window. Would highly recommend.

Everything was, clean and organized with signs on both Japanese and English. The staff was very kind and friendly, and a very sweet couple shower us a tea ceremony and taught us do one for them in return

Staff was a amazing and attentive. On arrival, they provided us some tea and guided us through the facilities. We asked about shipping our luggage to our next hotel and they reminded us when to bring our bags down and filled out the transport slips for us. It’s about 10 min walking distance to a few shopping areas and arcade. When we weren’t outside, we were able to join for a few of the in-hotel activities when we were around which were a fun bonus to our stay (tea ceremony demonstration and handkerchief painting). All in all, we had a positive experience in Kyoto!

We loved our stay at Nishiyama Ryokan. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast comes at an additional cost, but is definitely worth the price. We attended the tea ceremony after breakfast where they taught us how to prepare and drink tea. It was a great cultural experience! We highly recommend staying here.

The stay was absolutely wonderful, the staff was extremely helpful and the level of service was outstanding. The rooms were spacious for Japan and the extra amenities were greatly appreciated. The breakfast was delicious as well. Do not skip out on the tea ceremony, it was wonderful to take part.

Could not have asked for a better experience at Nishiyama Ryokan! What an amazing treat for my family and I to experience while in Kyoto! It was the perfect way to experience a ryokan style stay with added bonus of extremely helpful and friendly staff always nearby. You're really treated like royalty here by all of the staff and would recommend it for anyone wanting a relaxing stay in Kyoto, close by to all of the popular experiences.

Peaceful and quite, excellent staff, bath house, garden, location. Close to imperial palace and Nishiki Market. Close to subway/train to see all attractions in Kyoto. Rooms were appointed nicely and very comfortable. Free coffee and tea. The staff were so kind and lovely, and the tea service was a nice experience.
