Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNothing! This is a great place to stay in.
I really liked everything about Rakucho Ryokan. The host was really friendly, welcoming, and helpful. At the start, he gave us a map of the local area for some guidance. There was not much of common areas, but our room had a lovely sitting room where we can eat. It was a very authentic experience sitting and sleeping on the tatami mats! The bedroom was really nice and offered a nice view of the garden. There is a microwave and eating utensils available to use. Toilet and shower areas are kept clean and well supplied with shampoo, toothpaste, and body wash! There's plenty of umbrellas to borrow during rainy days. There's also slippers to use indoors.

United Arab EmiratesDuring our stay at Rakucho Ryoikan in Kyoto, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, who spoke English fluently and made us feel right at home. The ryokan offers fresh towels everyday and features exceptionally clean shared showers and bathrooms, which were never overcrowded during our stay. The traditional Japanese architecture, complete with beautiful tatami floors and a stunning garden, added to the charm of the place. Located in a quiet neighborhood just outside the city center, it provided a peaceful retreat while still being accessible to Kyoto Station within 15 to 25 minutes. Overall, Rakucho Ryoikan offers a delightful blend of hospitality, cleanliness, and traditional Japanese ambiance. Highly recommended for a memorable stay in Kyoto.

FranceNoise travels easy between the rooms. As long as you have good neighbours it's no issue. Overall, we didn't mind it.
The owner was very kind and helpful (with good english too), he pointed us to the best nearby restaurants and provided us with various maps. The room itself was pretty, as well as the little garden, and the beds & covers were comfortable and warm (perfect for the cold weather). The ryokan is next to several bus lines and about 10min from the metro, so it's super easy to move around from there. The closet was huge, so no worries for big suitcases or backpacks. Overall, we had a wonderful stay! :)

CanadaThe only thing is that I didn’t get to spend more time there.
I love traditional Japanese homes, the warmth and comfort they provide which I felt while staying here. Their tatami mats were in excellent condition and I could see that they were well taken care of. Being from Canada, it’s next to impossible to get tatami mats and after spending time in Japan I’ve grown a deep appreciation and attachment to them. It was incredibly helpful that the host spoke very good English, I know a little Japanese enough to get around, but I found that when it came to speaking to native speakers I would freeze up and forget everything I knew, and having the host confidently speak english was very comforting. The property has no curfew which is helpful. I’m not someone who needs to be pampered or who needs all the extra facilities to be happy, the ryokan is humble and comfortable. Having the basic necessities such as tea/kettle , ac/ heat unit, fridge, and futon in my room was more than enough for me, there are several showers and several toilets on the property, more than enough for the amount of rooms they host. There was also a full kitchen and laundry room! I never used them, but those two extra accommodations are what really made this ryokan stand out to me, and when I go back to Kyoto I would be more than happy to stay here again.

SingaporePerhaps i am not used to the futon bed as the futon bed is quite thin, i could feel the hard floor.
The shower facilities are very clean and spacious, and i like the privacy of the basins with curtains so I could wash my face without other people looking, even though its shared bathroom / toilet. The owner was also very friendly and speaks good English. He also directed us on how to go certain places. The owner also cleaned our room daily and changed our towels daily. It was an overall nice experience. Highly recommended to book this place.

United States of AmericaNot much. It was sometimes difficult to navigate because of my size relative to the architecture (I'm 6' 3"), but that was to be expected. The main shared toilet we used didn't seem to have temperature control in that room so it got hot during the day.
The owner/manager was very kind and welcoming. Understanding the type of a facility this is, the shared space was all clean and maintained. I'm not sure how many other lodgers were staying at the time, but we were never waiting or competing for a sink or shower or toilet, all of which were clean and modern within the older architecture of the house itself. The room itself was very spacious and had some hanging and storage for clothes or whatever else we'd want to unpack. Temperature control was very strong in the room, well appreciated in the hot muggy summer. Opening our window in the early, still-cool, morning let me enjoy the sunshine and a back garden while sipping provided green tea. It's fairly accessible to Kyoto subway transit, roughly ~10 minute walk. Additionally, there are several eateries and other shopping nearby, although we mostly didn't explore the immediate area. The one place we went was the izakaya Yamaga, one of the recommended dining options by the manager. The food there was excellent and a great atmosphere.
