Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

EstoniaSmelly room and dirty bathrooms. My floor (3rd) didn't even have a bathroom, so you have to walk either up or down the stairs for it.

Good value for money. The room was huge for the price you pay. The owner/manager was really knowledgeable and friendly. There's a basic onsen within the property.

AustraliaFutons and pillows were a bit thin and hard to sleep on (we had a family room for 3). Not having an elevator was a bit hard with large luggage but that's pretty normal in Japanese accommodations.
Onsen was great, hostel offers lots of free things like the foot bath and bike hire. Very good value for money. Feels like staying at grandma's place which is a bit old and worn but cared for.

This hotel is cheap. It has a cotton candy machine and onsen. My kids like them. The owner is kind and can communicate in English.

Well equipped kitchen and tatami sitting place for eating. There is a washing machine without dryer. You can hang your clothes to dry somewhere but I didn't check. Real flowing (not recirculated) onsen water which is nice and hot. A bit old and rundown but clean and serves travel/ rest needs.

United States of AmericaIt's run down and could probably be cleaner.
This place has character and charm. The man at the reception desk was helpful and friendly, and let me store my bag after I checked out. They have a list of recommended restaurants. There is a small onsen onsite and a foot bath in front. The dining room is nice and seems in the traditional Japanese style. Attached to it is a room with a rubber cork shooting game. I liked this accommodation, although it is, as others have said, runs down. But it cost $15 for one night, which is the lowest I've paid in Japan.

Czech RepublicThe futon were quite thin (compared to other places). Only two electric sockets for the whole room & bathroom (for three travelers it's a little lacking).
The place feels cozy and comfy (despite or maybe because of a bit outdated rooms and facilities). The rooms are basic, but clean and serve the purpose well. Downstairs there is a great spot for hanging out, with a guitar and toy rifles (you can shoot for prizes like at a fair). The kitchen has two fridges and a lot of space. The onsen was under reconstruction, but we got a free ticket to a nearby public onsen, which was hot and nice. The staff was really helpful and attentive.

FranceThe bathroom was old and very basic. This is the first time I have to pay to have a towel in a hotel/guesthouse (not talking about hostels). When we can have bikes for free at the same time, we found that quite weird. Nevertheless it was not expensive, but still.
Very traditional feeling given by this hotel. Our room with the futons was big and great, especially as we had the family room we could use the 5 futon and make it more comfortable (less hard). Clean and cosy. There is a kitchen that you can use. The common space is really nice. We enjoyed the onsen inside the guesthouse, even if it was pretty small. Two really nice perks : they lend for free bikes, so we used them to go to Beppu Hells. And you can make and eat cotton candy for free too. The staff was helpful. Conveniently located, close to the station.
