Very interesting boutique hotel that was once a school. I was entranced by the incredibly high ceilings and enjoyed how the space has been decorated as an hotel. The staff were very warm and welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed.

Signage for rooms. I walked the very long way round when another alternative was available just not sign posted well.

Rooms were amazing. Made me want to come home and renovate my loft to match it! Breakfast was lovely. Chef happy to cook extra to what was laid out if needed, everything was fresh. Bar is warm and welcoming, and all staff can’t do enough for you. Bed was very comfy, so much so I think I lay like a corpse with other side of bed not even messed up!

only wish we could have experienced the restaurant before they closed it! The library/comfort room needs some sprucing up..it is a little tired. Better lighting with vanity mirror in the guest room.

We loved this quirky gem of a boutique hotel. The decor is fun and also elegant- our room was Asian-themed (others are in various themes). Very comfortable accommodations, excellent and plentiful breakfast with some cooked to order eggs, etc. The staff was always willing to help and gave us many recommendations for this lovely city of Haarlem- which was in was crazy times with World Cup week and all locals involved! Easy walk to the train station. We absolutely want to return to Haarlem and Boutique Hotel Staats!

Having stayed in other places at half the price this was not value for money. Instant coffee in the bedroom was a disappointment. Most places have a Nespresso machine as standard in the bedroom. Advertised Table tennis table was not really a table tennis table but 4 office tables joined together and not available to use during the day as the tables were set up for meetings. Breakfast was ok but not really value for money.

The room was big and airy. Tastefully decorated. Bed was big and comfy. Breakfast timings were good.

This wasn't a problem, but there were a couple of flights of stairs to our rooms.

It's a lovely kind of quirky and unique hotel. Every room seems to be decorated individually which is fun to see. The food in the restaurant was delicious and interesting. The breakfast itself was wonderful. The staff were very helpful with our luggage and gave us good guidance with getting around.

The restaurant is only open part of the week (not open Friday through to Sunday when we stayed) so on those days there’s no breakfast, although there is a lounge where you can find coffee and an honesty bar (which had bottles of champagne in it!). There claimed to be cake available in the lounge, but the reality was a sorry jar of biscuits and what looked like cubes of fudge. There were also apples. The hotel is decorated in dark colours like a night club and the lighting is really dingy throughout. It has steep dark narrow-tread stairs, so anyone with even slight visual impairment may have problems. We were on the top floor which was difficult with luggage and no lift, so anyone with mobility issues would have a big problem and would be advised to ask for a ground floor room. The room was extremely dimly lit with fashionable industrial style lighting that served no practical purpose whatsoever. The bathroom light was useless for make up. In our top floor room, within the loft space, there were low beams at one end that you had to dodge whilst walking around the bed.

The Boutiquehotel Staats was handy for the railway station and situated on a quiet residential street. We had good communication from the hotel. On arrival day, we were contacted by the hotel to check if we were going to arrive before 11pm as reception closes then, although you can get in and out at any time once you have your key card. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who issued us with tourist maps and advice about the area. The room was on the top floor and was large, with a good sized power shower. Large bottles of toiletries were provided in the bathroom which appeared to be clean but the room was so dimly lit, it was hard to know (see below). Storage was adequate - no wardrobe but an open rail and some open shelving alongside a desk. There was a kettle with basic tea making facilities and a fridge with 2 bottles of water in it. However there was a lounge on the ground floor where you could make tea and coffee, with complimentary biscuits and apples. The industrial theme continued with the decor with the walls covered in blocks of dark wood. There were adequate sockets and charging points by the bed which were in a strange cube dangling out of the wall - another design “thing”?

We checked the offered breakfast first thing in the morning and then decided not to have it at the hotel. It will surely meet the standards every other restaurant has to offer and ist the same in price, but it just wasn´t for us so we got breakfast at another place.

We stayed for two nights and the location was perfect. The walking distance both to the main station (to take the train to the beach or Amsterdam), where the parking garage ist located, as well as to the city centre are very short. A huge bonus: the hotel is in a very very quiet street, so the nights were highly relaxing.

    There is nothing to dislike.

This is a fabulously unique hotel with extremely friendly, helpful and caring staff. The rooms are very comfortable and well furnished with a nice amount of style. There is also a coffee and games area for guests to use which is very relaxing. Breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is the little extra touches that really make the stay a good experience, which I appreciate each time I stay.

Excellent location, a short distance from both town centre and rail station. A great room in a sympathetically redeveloped building with a stunning interior. Professional and welcoming staff who enhanced our stay considerably. Excellent breakfast -- if we had stayed longer we would almost certainly have tried to book dinner: the restaurant looked very inviting! An all-round great property we will book again when in Haarlem.
