Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. United States of AmericaNothing! We loved everything. In the future, if there's an oat milk creamer for coffee included in the room, my life will be complete. :)
We loved everything about this place. It felt like a little secluded retreat yet close to VNP and not that far from Hilo and other surrounding attractions/towns. Chris/Eric were wonderful hosts - and just a text a way. We loved the fruit platter, banana bread, and snacks available in the room for when we are too lazy to go out and find food. The amazing outdoor hot tub and in room jacuzzi when are legs are on fire from all those hikes. There's just so many wonderful things about this place and the list just goes on! This has got to be the most relaxing place that we have every stayed at. I wish we can just stay here forever! Staying just 3 nights was definitely not enough! For sure when we are back on Big Island again, we will only be staying here!

ChinaNothing, all great
Lovely, warm and detailed ,both room and holders. With cute handwriting our name on the door. Bed is comfortable, warm temperature from fireplace, heated blanket and heated floor in winter. Also surprised with the delicious homemade bread. Plenty of snacks, drinks and fruits. Ground coffee was great as well. But above all the grateful that Eric offer great help driving us to the airport under the condition that when we are desperate-no rental car and no Uber answering on 6am. Definitely will come again next time.

United KingdomAt the Crater’s Edge is absolutely gorgeous - so beautifully decorated, whilst simultaneously feeling comfortable and homey. Eric and Chris provided everything we could ever think to need (including some delicious banana bread). The room was cleaned to perfection and the amenities were fantastic. It was also a lovely change from the resort style accommodation we had been in before - this was much more relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle. Eric and Chris were great with their communication and gave us loads of recommendations for everywhere we were travelling on Big Island. We love them! The property is super close to Volcano itself, which is exceptionally easy to get around, and the entrance to the National Park is a stone’s throw away from the property. We did a fantastic e-bike tour and some hiking in the couple of days we were there. It was one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. I really wished we booked more time!

United States of AmericaAt the Crater’s Edge exceeded all of our expectations. The room was beautiful, comfortable, clean, and well appointed. From the silky soft sheets to the French press for morning coffee on the deck, we had everything we needed for an amazing stay. The location next to Volcanoes National Park can not be beat! Hosts Eric and Chris were warm and welcoming, and provided great recommendations for local hikes and restaurants. The assortment of treats, snacks, drinks, and special touches in our room were so appreciated. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. We would happily return and would recommend this gem to others without hesitation!

United States of AmericaNothing, Everything met or exceeded our expectations.
The owners were outstanding! Eric and Chris took several calls from us with many questions. They were able to help us plan our activities at Volcano National Park. The lodge was impeccably clean, simple snacks and fruit were provided and most home furnishings were available. The location is only a few miles from the park and about a mile from the town of Volcano, While it is close to these locations and others, there is still a remoteness about it. It truly exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend At The Crater's Edge to anyone! It was truly our pleasure meeting you both. Regards, Jonal and Michelle

Erik and Chris provided everything. No detail was too small. Basic food in the frig, coffee every morning, snacks for hiking, hot tub available, etc. and friendly host. And it is super close to the National Park.

United States of AmericaWe loved everything from the gorgeous view down to the smallest details of flowers placed on the pedestal glass plate that held the homemade delicious banana bread. There was nothing we did not like.
From the moment we parked the spirit of Aloha greeted us. At The Crater’s Edge is a beautiful oasis, exceeding all expectations, with two amazing hosts who go above and beyond. The only way I could leave was the promise from my husband that we would come back.

AustraliaAbsolutely nothing. It was perfect.
This was one of my favourite places on the Big Island. It exceeded expectations in all areas! The rooms were plush and comfortable. The hot tub was such a welcome addition after a long day hiking in the national park. There were thoughtful touches in the rooms such as the large selection of snacks, delicious local coffee and banana bread for slow mornings, or taking with you for a day exploring. Chris and Eric were absolutely WONDERFUL. They're kind, considerate, accessible and just great people. They're on hand for recommendations about the local area, and really go above and beyond to deliver a first-class experience including helping us with our laundry! I wish we had stayed here instead of the sub-par accommodation we had in Hilo and just used this as a base to explore the South of the Island. Next time!

United States of AmericaWe loved everything about the property. There are not a lot of options for food in the village of volcano. Many visitors to the park not staying in Volcano are looking for food as well. I would suggest researching restaurant options and reservations ahead of time.
Chris and Eric were excellent hosts. They greeted us when we arrived and went through everything we needed to know about our stay with them. The room, the property and location were all amazing. We spent time in the hot tub, relaxing on the couches with cocktails and kept warm next to the fire. The room was incredibly neat and beautifully decorated. Chris and Eric had everything we needed to make our visit enjoyable. it was perfect for our anniversary. We were literally a mile from the entrance to volcano national park and about 30 minutes from Hilo. If you’re looking for a true Hawaiian getaway in a rainforest with nothing but you and nature and a volcano this is the place for you. It was incredibly relaxing.

United States of AmericaEverything was wonderful! The only very minor thing I would have liked for a more extended stay is more counter space in the bathroom for my cosmetics and toiletries. But this is very minor and not something that hindered our experience.
I loved the feeling of privacy and yet also very communal. The heated floors in the bathroom were fantastic as well as the bidet and fabulous shower. We loved the floor-to-ceiling windows and waking up to the sunrise in the morning. We felt very safe here too.
