To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

I liked the cleanliness of the hotel and how welcoming the staff was. Loved that we could walk to fisherman’s wharf for some fun and not worry about finding parking or just driving in general.

United States of AmericaAlthough we were prepared that there would be about a mile walk from the front to our room, to make this walk on multiple occasions (as we traveled outside of the resort) became old fast. Even with the tram, which we chose not to take, it felt like a lot to ask for the price we paid. We also requested hot water for our bathroom-we had lukewarm water. One day we had hot water. It was frustrating and a concern for hygiene.
The property was beautiful with a variety of well thought amenities.

New ZealandThe breakfast was the same every day, while edible it was a bit boring. Next time we wouldn't pay to include breakfast and would go to a local Cafe instead. Some of the staff weren't as helpful as others, but most were great!
The location is great, in a cleaner and safer part of San Francisco. Much quieter than staying in the centre of the city but still very close to the main things to see. The most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in, and the pool and spa are open year round.
