As an introvert this was my first bed and breakfast stay. The hosts were welcoming and warm (especially the furry host).

This was our 1st Inn experience ( being in someone's home) it was different for us but nice. We were only there 2 nites but if we had been there longer would have mingled more. Mark the host was very friendly and welcoming. Nice peaceful property. Close to all beaches in Southern Maine.

No comfortable chair with table to sit and use computer in room. Rooms do not have individual AC controls, though owner accommodating in making adjustments for our comfort. Breakfast very tasty, limited selection

The rooms large, airy, beds comfortable, scenery fantastic, owners friendly and accommodating, dogs adorable!

Beautiful Property But Not An Authentic Bed & Breakfast

Riverhouse does not have staff, so we were not greeted the way a guest should be. We confirmed at the time of booking, as well as days prior and the day of, when we would arrive. We were very communicable about our arrival time to be courteous and respectful. Unfortunately, the owner of the home was unable to greet us; instead, he had his wife greet us. My previous experience with B&B's was nothing like this. We drove up and no one came out. We could hear the dogs barking, but still no one came out. We walked down the steps toward the door and had to knock on the door before the owner's spouse came to the door. When she opened the door, there was no smile to greet us and she seemed unfriendly. Immediately, we were not put at ease or made to feel welcomed. She showed us the rooms while barely speaking a word. Once the owner arrived, he made up for everything. He seemed kind and did his best to make us feel comfortable. Breakfast was not at all what we expected. Although delicious, light, and filling, we paid an additional $60 for parfaits and scones. Coffee was not available after breakfast, so my Dad was unable to drink coffee as he would at home. The cost of the stay was more than enough, so to add an additional cost for parfaits, scones, and coffee was a bit distasteful. We could have used that money for a hearty breakfast elsewhere. I was under the impression that there would be activities for guests, but there were not. We were pretty much isolated to one area of the house. Sadly, the owners' large but beautiful dogs were a deterrent to go into the kitchen and other living area. To respect the owners, we stayed away. Overall, it was a decent stay and something different for my parents and husband. We would have been better off at a hotel for this particular stay.

The accommodations in terms of the property itself, were phenomenal. The owner of the property was extremely friendly and provided great ideas on best places to eat and visit during our stay. The view from every window was absolutely beautiful. The home was extremely spacious with wall to ceiling windows downstairs, so the scenic views were peaceful. Having nature so close to the house reminded me of my parents' home in Maryland, but their 2 acres don't boast of American eagles flying about!

The setting is exquisite on the river. The rooms are comfortable and clean. You can walk to a nice state park. The owners are super friendly and welcoming. This is a great European style B&B to explore the area, not far from the coastal towns but in a super quiet and lovely area nearby, so without any tourism or crowds. Highly recommend.
