Surrounded by lush greenery, Mampei Hotel offers free WiFi and free on-site private parking. JR Karuizawa Station is a 10-minute drive from this non-smoking accommodation. Excellent service from start to finish. The staff were helpful and informative and always poised to support and help out . We wanted for nothing and the vibe of the hotel really helped immerse you in the local area. A great experience.

Offering a barbecue and ski storage space, AIBIYA is located in Yamanouchi in the Nagano Region, 4.1 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park. The staff was very nice and we had very interesting conversations. They give very good advice on the area and the Onsen. The place is spotless clean, beautiful and very quiet and comfortable. For a fee, you have access to Onsen in neighboring hotels. The town of Yudanaka is also very nice. The hotel is very close to the train station. From there, you can take a bus to the Snow Monkey Park. Convenience store, bars and restaurants are all walking distance too. If you need to do laundry, be aware that you have to start it before 8pm (might be good to know if you're traveling around and didn't have time to do it before).

Raicho Onsen Inn was our absolute favorite place to stay out of our 2 weeks traveling Japan. It had a friendly and open atmosphere - a great place to meet japanese and international travelers alike. It's a 5 minute walk to the Norikura Tourist Center which is a great place to rent e-bikes to explore the area (we biked Mt.Norikura along the Norikura Echo Line which begins at the tourist center), or grab a drink at their cafe. They also have an onigiri machine, but they run out pretty quickly. There's a yummy restaurant located inside an onsen which is right across the tourist center. There aren't too many walkable options for food, especially if you're a vegetarian, but Raicho Onsen Inn does a beautiful job of letting you know exactly what your options are with a collection of restaurants on their bulletin board. They even have a wonderfully designed large kitchen with inexpensive basic food items available for purchase such as pasta, tuna, canned corn, instant curries, some fresh veggies, etc. You can also purchase breakfast from them which is a bagel with different filling choices. Their computer lounge area is a great place to relax and hang out. We especially enjoyed the onsens, both indoor and outdoor, which are booked privately through a schedule on the wall. The inn is located next to many beautiful hiking trails and waterfalls (the entrance for one was literally 2 minute walk away!) We were only planning on staying 1 night, but my partner and I ended up staying for 3 nights.

The hosts are kind and thoughtful and gave us very good advice for dinner locally and for our next destination. Best of all, the breakfast was delicious and kept us going all day. Our room was small, but we knew that when we booked so we were not bothered by that in any way. Aovely way to break up the trip from Tokyo to Kamikochi if you have a car and it is worth a visit just for the sake of being there.

Opened in August 2012, B&B Hotel Hyochoan offers simple Western-style accommodations. Free in-room WiFi is available and guests can enjoy bird watching from the property’s terrace. The place is very good and the owners are so king and nice!

Sa Daymaruya Ryokan, tatangkilikin ng mga guest ang mga hot-spring bath at tradisyonal na Japanese-style accommodation na may libreng wired internet access. Very spacious and beautifully presented rooms in traditional Ryokan in the middle of Shibu Onsen. Comfortable Tatami beds. Great to have private toilet. The onsite outdoor private Onsen and inside (male/female) onsens were fantastic. Loved the supplied Yukata and Geta for the Onsens. Key supplied for all public onsens through town. The owners were so helpful and kind, driving us to and from snow monkeys and to Yudanaka station for our train. Enjoyed the traditional home made breakfast delivered to our room at reasonable price in beautiful bento box.

Located in the Shibu hot-spring district, guests can enjoy indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths at Suminoyu. Massages can be requested and a footbath is also available for extra relaxation. Multi course exceptional meals including local seasonal produce - such a special experience. Onsen (inside and outside on rooftop), shower area and products were all high quality, traditional Japanese style rooms were beautiful, location in the town is great and fact saying here provided access to the 9 public onsens was fab. Shuttle bus was such a treat after we had gotten used to walking everywhere alongside buses/ train. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel! Certainly a highlight of the trip and can’t fault it.
