Horrible experience! The shower did not work. When I tried to convey this to the guy at the reception at the end of my stay (we had two rooms, so we took shower all in the one room's washroom that was working), the receptionist started shouting at me! Overall, a very poor experience. Should be avoided.

The people have changed a lot since I last visited. The people at banks and food joints like KFC are rude. Earlier people were very pleasant and they had great etiquettes, but in my recent visit...I had a surprise.

Walk the streets, the street food scene is amazing and take an empty suitcase for shopping. Go to Gariahat and new market for cheap but great quality and shop for leather

I liked the local foods .
I liked the local foods . I didn't like the way people honk the cars on the road all the time. It was too stressful. Also Kolkata as a whole area is too dirty everywhere. Locals like to sleep during lunch hours which makes the city too slow during afternoon

It is a city of scamsters and touters.
It is a city of scamsters and touters. I have not seen a single city in the world except Kolkata where almost all cab and taxi services (including ola, uber and bikes etc) ask the customer for more money than what is shown in the app and threaten to cancel the ride otherwise. The worker class and labour class is fully corrupt

Kolkata is indeed the city of joy.
Kolkata is indeed the city of joy. Walking through the street of Kolkata means, walking through history, culture and heritage. One or two days are nothing for Kolkata. To know Kolkata, to see Kolkata you need at least a month to get the best essence of the trip. Old part of the city as well as modern part of the city has so many beautiful things to offer for a tourist. I think Kolkata is the best place to enrich ones knowledge of arts, music, literature and what not?
This is grand hotel of a type rarely seen nowadays.
From the airport pick-up to my check-out, the front desk, concierge and staff at the pool coffee bar were charming, helpful and friendly.
The outstanding breakfast (where I was given delightful personal attention by Sanket) sets a new high standard by which all future hotels will be judged.
The location is perfect for getting around Kolkata. Many places are literally on the doorstep (e.g. Hoggs Market, Park Street) and the Metro (clean and easy to navigate) is just around the corner.
The Astor is a lovely heritage hotel in a quieter part of Kolkata, than say, New Market, but is still only a 10-minute walk to central Park Street. There are some goods shops and restaurants around.
The buffet breakfast and eggs cooked to order were very good, as was the food in the dining room. The ambience of the dining room is beautiful olde world charm.
The Staff were polite and helpful, and enabled us to have an early check-in, so we had a drink in the dining room, whilst the room was being made up.
During this trip I have visited three different cities in India. Holiday INN was far the best compared to two other hotels. Well, actually it has met all my expectations which I got used to in London and Europe.
And especially nice gastronomic experience. Safe (which is especially sensitive in India) and extremely delicious dinner with authentic Indian dishes. Order of following dishes one by one makes sense here! I had very nice dinner on Tuesday 12/07/2022. Thanks!
