MyStays was really easy to walk to from the JR station. We got there just before 2pm and were able to check in straight away. It’s a tall building and signs are easy to see. On enquiring, I was told that our room would not have a castle view but we were changed to a lower room with castle view when I asked if possible. It was distant but nice! Having checked in so early and freshened up, we had the afternoon to explore and eat out. The hotel’s location is good for access to both station areas and to the castle grounds. Tram stops are very close too. Easy to figure out transport options. The staff were very helpful. On request, a taxi was ordered for us for checkout morning so we could travel to the port for a ferry to Kure / Hiroshima. We liked that the window in the room opened so we could let some outside air in. And there were some charging leads for devices in one of the drawers.

I like that this hotel chain has free breakfast.
The staff was also very friendly and tried to communicate with hands and feet. Apparently nobody speaks English. I speak a bit Japanese though so it wasn’t a problem. They tried to communicate as best as they could and that’s what matters.

First of all, all has to be seen in the relation of the paid price.
16m2 room (the larger type) for JPY 5.800 plus a very modest JPY 950 for a set menu of Japanese breakfast is a bargain more than you can ask for. Therefore my expectations were not set too high.
Bottom line, my expectations were exceeded in all aspects.
Ofcourse this hotel is a business hotel meeting the Japanese standard in terms of check in / check out rulings, the standard set of rules and regulations, the nationwide common squeeze of a unit type bathroom, standard bed, desk, etc.
What makes this hotel stick out of the mass, is its friendly and sincere personnel, the fantastic public bath, top notch location and last but not least an agreeable set of breakfast to an agreeable price.
Different to my fellow travelers, WIFI was speedy, no set up nor connection issues. All top notch.
Basically there is nothing to complain about.
If I paid double, I would surely be shopping for complaints and petite issues.
All in all, it was a nice stay, helpful and friendly staff, decent lodgings, prime location.

The atmosphere and vibe was very clean and kinda Nordic. Wooden floors! Room was very roomy, almost decadently so. One of the fanciest hotels I've been in terms of general atmosphere.

Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave.
Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave. The castle (with its chair lift up to it) was great. There are lots of options for shopping, eating and drinking and the whole area around Dogo Onsen is very nice.

Where there isn’t the sea, the city is surrounded by mountains. With the hill that has the castle on top, it creates a nice atmosphere. The onsen town (Dogo onsen) is where I mostly stayed. It was fun to see people walking around in the street in their yukata.
Like in many Japanese cities, the tram is cute and all, but it’s very inefficient. Moreover, you can only pay with cash or their local IC card. You cannot use standard IC cards like Pasmo, Suica, etc.
We ate at our wonderful hotel (Kowakuen) so I cannot speak about the restaurants.

Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit.
Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit. The must visits are of course the mountain top castle named Matsuyama Castle and also so many others like the Okaido shopping street and the Bansuino old French-style house. There are also delicious foods to try such as the Taimeshi which was delicious as well as the amazingly delicious oranges (mikaan) around the city. There are so many shops selling mikaan and mikaan juice that if you like fruits, you will love this city.

Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring.
Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring. The big onsen that they go on about is a tourist trap so I would not waste your time. I was told Spring and Fall were the best times to go as the Summer is hot and humid. The people seem OK but don’t really want to be bothered by foreigners.

I visited Matsuyama as part of the 88 temple Henro pilgrimage and so took in several temples, shrines and the Matsuyama Castle which is the most impressive castle I have visited in Japan thus far. The hot springs are also excellent and plenty of nightlife options.
If you love ryokans and art, and you are in Matsuyama, YOU HAVE TO STAY HERE!!! It was just a beautiful experience. Tani san was a very gracious, kind and understanding host. The property itself is a traditional Japanese house with two small gardens with ponds and rivers and fishes and moss...very well maintained. Despite being an old Japanese house, all the amenities are high-tech. And the whole place is wonderfully decorated with various pieces of art. It's just a great place to stay!...O, and there is pick up and drop off too!
The hotel is conveniently located next to the Matsuyama city station terminal with many options to get around and go to tourist spots such as Dogo Onsen and Matsuyama castle. Our room is spacious with a tatami sitting area. The check in machine was easy to use and staffs are helpful. The amenities in the hotel room are great. The public bath in the hotel features hot and warm baths, and Dyson Hairdryer. Will definitely stay here again next time we visit.
The room itself was very nice, and was pretty spacious. The bed was large, and a second pillow is provided in the room as standard (meaning you don't have to ask!). The staff are polite and professional, too.
The hotel itself is in a great location next to Okaido tram station, and nearby the base of the castle.
The breakfast selection was pretty decent - they had good croissants and coffee. If I returned to Matsuyama, I would definitely stay here.
This was such a unique place to stay when we were visiting friends in the area. It is a super retro budget onsen hotel so we kept our expectations low.
It must have been built in the 70's and even though I have never been there before, it felt nostalgic.
The in room bath was super cool and it was nice to always be able to pop into a warm bath overlooking the ocean. There was a great view from the room and looks out into the Seto inland sea.
The most good part of this hotel is those staff. All of them were so kind. They made my stay as best as they could assist. Also, location, right next to Dogo onsen(I didn't use there, yamatoya's hot spring was amazing), if you go down, shopping street is there. Old Japanese style wooden structure is beautiful.
I stayed in 11 hotels in Japan over 3 weeks and this was the best room of all of them. nice and spacious. Rolled in late after a few beers in Matsuyama and the complimentary late night noodles were very very welcome. Great Onsen! couldn’t fault this hotel - as we say in Aus “onya guys!”👍👍👍👍👍
i like the location of this hotel, just infront of the matsuyama castle and park, and its just 7-8mins of walk to the train station, there is a convenience store nearby just infront of the hotel. i like the staff they are accomodating even the cleaning staff.. we love our stay in this hotel..
It is middle of the shopping street and it has onsen and lot of free stuff. Hotel has a nice onsen in 13th floor. Hotel provides simple but free soba at night and after enjoying onsen you can have free ice cream at night and probiotic drinks in the morning. There is a manga corner too.
great value, the staff is fantastic 👏
The location is a bit away from the citiy centre while there are bicycles free to use for hotel guests. Cycling around Matsuyama was great fun and efficient. We enjoyed our stay. Highlyrecommended. .
Everything! The traditional Japanese feel, the cleanliness, location from Dogo Onsen, the breakfast smelled delicious. If only I had gotten up early enough to try some! Staff was so helpful, friendly, and supportive.
Good size room, goid breakfast. Got a good deal on the rooms with breakfast.
Walking distance to robeway to Matsuyama Castle n shopping district.
Will consider staying at more Tokyu REI hotels.
Closest hotel to jr Matsuyama station. Used coin laundry 2nd floor. Breakfast typical hotel breakfast but only 950yen if prepay day before. Convenient as streetcar right in front of hotel.
Staff was really kind and hospitality was awesome.
Also breakfast was tasty. I love Dashimaki tamago the best!
no-ceiling bath was one of the point to choose this hotel.
Our room was spatious, super clean and tidy. The bathroom was huge !
The hotel is 10min away by foot from Matsuyama station (JR) and right in front of the castle.
Excellent shower separated from the tub. Decent size room for the price. Plush towels. Very good breakfast with a large selection of Japanese and Western items.
