Batad Lhorens Inn and Restaurant, hotel in Banaue

Batad Lhorens Inn and Restaurant is situated in the village of Batad, Banaue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Luzon Region, 16 km from the famous Banaue Rice Terraces.

Great location just minutes away from the rice terraces, lovely family with adorable kids, cat and dog, wifi available (3 hours for 10 peso), beautiful view from balcony and rooftop, decent food options available. Everything is very basic but considering the price the value is still good. Would definately recommended this place but expect to go a bit back to basic!

I liked the morning coffee while enjoying the view of small rice terraces at the back of the hotel. The bigger ones at Batad and Banaue were wonderful but be ready for some serious walking up and down steep trails in Batad. Didn't like the state of cleanliness in the city in general, too much junk, old cars and rusting motorcycles on the road, and also the common practice of spitting publicly on the streets, sidewalks etc.

The Banaue Rice Terraces are overrun by houses and businesses. They are also not being maintained and are becoming overgrown by foliage. If you want to see truly scenic terraces go to one of the surrounding villages such as Batad or others in that area.

Come during the dry season of the country, rain and roads would be closed on wet season and be tricky. It shows how such group of people in the mountains were able to leave such a legacy , using limited resources to thrive , not forced labor but simple hands work for years, the result lasted 2000 years till now with nature’s help, Amazing!

We ordered a tour guide (excellent) from the hotel, as well as a Jeepney, both of which may have been cheaper from the Tourist information desk 500 meters from the hotel. The tours are magnificent, as you would expect from the 8th Wonder of the World

The things I liked most about Banaue was the rustic appeal, the breathtaking views, the amazing landscape that is so different from what you see in the low lands, and the temperature. This is an alternative place to escape the summer heat and a great way to see one of the wonders of the Philippines and how our native people made a way to survive and flourish in the mountains. Just take note, if you are driving, the roads are narrow with lots of sharp and blind turns. Make sure your brakes work very well as the inclines are quite steep going to and leaving Banaue. Also be careful driving at night. Roads are mostly not lit and heavy fog severely limits visibility. Just drive carefully and adjust speed as needed.
