This hotel has more of a bare-bones appeal to it, but comes with a long history and period-accurate restoration. It is in the Pingyao Old City, they allow late check-in and check-out. Hosts speak english and are very kind and helpful.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
A cultural heritage city like no other.
A cultural heritage city like no other. You can truly appreciate China's incredible history and fabulous local cuisine. The stone carvings in the caves take you back to previous dynasties and display the rich history of China. Better to view the caves on a non-holiday weekend. We went there along with 27,000 other people.Guest review byStephen MCAtamneyChina - 6.0

The city is undeniably beautiful and feels like a living museum, perfectly preserved in time. However, it’s very touristy, with shops that all seem to offer the same souvenirs, making it feel like a true tourist trap. It’s worth a quick visit, but I wouldn’t recommend spending too much time there. Additionally, I was disturbed to see many pigs and other animals kept in small quarters in some stores. If you’re sensitive to animal welfare issues, this may be hard to stomach. Overall, while the city has its charm, be mindful of its tourist-centric nature.Guest review byJoelNetherlands - 8.0

It was ok. The grottoes were amazing. Take a taxi there and back. It's worth the convenience. Would I go back again? No. Am I glad I went? Yes The ancient town is not that great. But walking on the wall is an amazing experience.Guest review byBoitumeloChina - 10.0

Beautiful ancient city, and you still can feel the daily normal leaving of its inhabitants. Liked the most to have 99.9999% chinese tourist at this time of the year, Mid March. Only 4 westerners encountered. Chinese History at its best. Lots of historical places to visit and learn from ancient China. Unmissable for local and foreigner travellers.Guest review byManuelColombia - 10.0

The Yungang Grottoes and the Hanging Temple are both “must see” places that will leave a visitor wonderstruck! Do not miss! The Datong City Wall is also an amazing structure that one should definitely walk on to see the architecture, know the history of the city and to take in the city views from atop it. The walled city is beautiful at every corner, roundabout and every street. Stay in a hotel in the walled city.Guest review byAmrita SinghChina
