If you are seeking a hideaway from Bali’s chaotic Kuta, Ubud provides a welcome respite with its secluded paths, calming temples and specialised spa resorts. Surrounded by rice paddies, coconut trees and lush forests of green, Ubud is seen as the cultural centre of Bali.

I love the diversity in the activities that you can do in this town. There are a lot of artsy activities, cultural experiences, sporty and outdoor activities to do. Our accommodation was wonderful as it was out of town, in a very quiet village. Ubud itself is very busy and the traffic is horrendous. The beautiful rice fields and natural environment that people travel to Ubud to enjoy is being eroded by development and construction. There's a lot to see and do in Ubud and the surrounds. We made the mistake of staying up in Tegallalang, too remote and taxis harder to get if your not using a scooter. In hindsight it would be better to stay in Ubud and do day trips from there. Then you have access to all the amenities Ubud has to offer. The traffic is crazy in Ubud, but you somehow get used it and find the quieter spots. Don't go out at 5pm rush hour! I like the quiet backstreets and there's so many eateries if you stayed a year I doubt you'd get to try them all.Guest review byKarenNew Zealand - 8.0

I have to start with the food.
I have to start with the food. It's excellent in it's freshness, variety and quality. You can eat real, wholesome food for every meal. The Balinese people are so welcoming and friendly. We've never had such a reception in any other country. Take some time to learn how to greet and thank the people and you'll be rewarded with a lovely smile. Ubud's infrastructure is suffering under the heavy tourist load. They need to work on the sewerage system a bit as it's not uncommon to smell untreated sewerage in some places as you walk around.Guest review byMatthewAustralia
