Historically and culturally rich Kaunas is surrounded by lush forests and waterways. It is home to an array of churches, museums and a charming Old Town consisting of diverse architecture and locally famous landmarks.
Running through the heart of Kaunas, Nemunas River is the vein that pumps through Lithuania and connects the country to neighbouring Belarus. It has several bridges which link the centre of Kaunas to townships such as Aleksotas, Karmėlava and Prienai.

Kaunas is a delightful city with a lot of museums, old buildings and churches to visit. The old town is compact, so easy to walk around. There are lots of cafes, donut shops and restaurants, all of which are reasonably prices. We did not venture far from the old town as we were there for a wedding, but the new town looked interesting and we heard good things from our friends. Soul in the old town square offers traditional Lithuanian and more international dishes. We went here three times in four days, it was so good! Holy Donut has incredible donuts. Vero Coffee has some very nice cafes in the old town. Kaunas Castle is very nice, but unless you are really interested the museum doesn't offer much. The view from outside is better value! Our favourite museum was the Pharmacy museum, which was very interesting. Our guide was very informative. Kaunas is a hidden gem, easy to get to from the airport, which charm and character. The old town area is highlight. Trams extreme cheap. Centre main road pedestrianised well with a walk. Outside haven’t got much to see but is pleasant. People and bus drivers can be rude and ill mannered but Apparantly this is known. Younger people seem very good and helpful. Language is a problem at times.

Hidden Lithuanian gem, i would highly advise more people to visit this amazing coty. Well preserved old town with many streats to walk and places to see, also plenty of great restaurants to eat out and have a great time. You must visit Kaunas to feel real Lithuanian vibes.
