The location is picture perfect, literally. It is on the western coast of the island, so if there is a sunset, you would see it. On our days, it was rainy, but that simply brought a different kind of beauty. The beaches were mostly empty - we had them to ourselves. There are several ways to get to the beach below, and all are an easy, short walk. Yet, the hotel is elevated, so you have a lovely view of the coastline. The room was light and airy, and very clean. There is plenty of storage space, and a nice shower with plenty of pressure. The bed was very comfortable, and there were room darkening curtains. The hotel was full when we were there, but it was still quiet. Breakfast is not included, but we found it to be worth the price. There was a lot of variety in the pastries offered, along with cheese, meat, boiled eggs, cereal, and fruit. We would recommend this place, and would stay again.

Chateau du Champdolent was a charming, charming place in the middle of French farmlands with a super kind host. This was one of our favorite places we stayed at in France. The building itself has an incredible history dating back to the 15th century with links to the royal family. Dominique’s meticulous restoration has saved all of the old beauty while making the space modern and comfortable. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom huge with an extra-long bathtub. The breakfast was very delicious and beautifully presented. It was definitely the best breakfast of our entire trip! Free and spacious parking was very welcome. After the hustle and bustle of the cities, Champdolent was a wonderful way to decompress and take in the quiet and beautiful countryside. We highly recommend this Chateau!

Staff were incredible, each and everyone of them were so helpful and friendly. A special mention to Amadu, who looked after so well and always with a smile. The rooms were extremely clean as was the entire hotel. The breakfast was delicious and had something for everyone.

    La Rochelle is a beautiful city. There was so much to do.

    La Rochelle is a beautiful city. There was so much to do. We went to Ile D’Aix one day where we really enjoyed the Napoleon museum and the Africa Museum. We loved the towers in La Rochelle. My girls enjoyed the jewellery making at Made By Me where you can also paint a t-shirt or a cap or some ceramics. We will definitely be back and plan to go for a few days to Ile de Re as a week was probably slightly too long in the city with kids. It’s a fab place though and honestly one of the prettiest places I have been.

    Hidden gem only 30 mins from the coast.

    Hidden gem only 30 mins from the coast. Historic Roman sites! Small city to walkaround. Beautiful walks along river with fishermen. Many people stay in Saintes at Le Parisiennes, use it as a base, then visit the coast. You can also get a train down to Bordeaux.

    An unexpected visit due to an issue with our truck but the place is lovely so I am quite happy we had the issue. I would definitely go back and stay for li get next time round. The beach front was full of lovely bars, restaurants and shops and the harbour/port area was also stunning.

    Rochefort is a very nice town by any standards.

    Rochefort is a very nice town by any standards. It has lots of history in that it was where the French made their eary war ships and there is a dedicated museum to this, The town is laid out on a grid system so its easy to navigate. Huge street market once a week, plus an indoor market place. There are lots of other museums and you should get on line to see all the attractions that are available. The locals are very friendly and helpful, the cafes vibrant and well priced and the whole town is clean.

    Stayed here for one night on way back to UK from Spain. Accommodation basic but just what you need and clean staff friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay again maybe more time next time to explore la Rochelle. Had a great night's sleep too parking great and my 2 little dogs made welcome too. Close to amenities restaurant and shops.

    Lots of restaurants and shops, the port is very pretty. Carparking is very expensive unless you park at one about a 15 minute walk away - this was free though. In August the port/town is extremely busy, as is the whole island. Buses are very reasonably priced, e visited La Rochelle one day for €4.50 return. Also took a bus to beaches in the north of the island

    Sainte Marie de Re is very quiet with not many shops or restaurants. There is a Carrefour supermarket and a small market daily. A lot of places were close early which meant we had to travel to St Martin de re , La Flotte or Bois de Plage to eat .

    Lovely beaches and restaurants, the train station is very close to the centre and very good for taking trips along the coast we went to La Rochelle which was only 20 mins so much easier than taking a car

    For convenience to the airport and La Rochelle, this was an ideal location in which to stay on Île de Ré. In September it was already a bit sleepy but the bicycle paths and public transport ensured that it's easy to see other towns and the city too. Be aware that public transport from La Rochelle finishes early on weekdays after the summer peak.

    It’s a lovely city with lots to see.

    It’s a lovely city with lots to see. Much of it is pedestrianised so easy to walk around. Cycling is very easy and there are bikes to hire, lots of cycle paths. Great restaurant choices. Easy to make a trip to Ile de Re -either by car, by bike or by boat. Our first trip but we would definitely come back for longer.
