Probably my favourite canary island capital.
Probably my favourite canary island capital. The old town is beautiful, full of characterful buildings and interest. Lovely black sand beach and good bus service to other parts of the island - we bussed to Los Canarios and Fuencaliente (for the walk over the volcanoes to the salinas and some wine tasting), Los Llanos (recommend Parque Antonio Felipe Gomez), and Los Tilos/Los Sauces (and the lovely airport). The ruta de los molinos in the city is fun too.Guest review byNatalieUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Pleasant area, well located.
Pleasant area, well located. It has nice restaurants and some sights. Close to the capital so it has easy access. Roads are narrow, crooked, everywhere. There is not one stretch of straight road of more than 20 meters in the whole island, so driving can get a bit tiring.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0

The area is good as a base to visit the Island as it is close to the airport and harbour, well conected and easy to find park space. It has restaurants and supermarkets nearby and two beaches. There is a nice sidewalk by the sea, although is the most touristic area of La Palma is quiet at night.Guest review byDanielGermany - 8.0
It´s not really a tourist hub.
It´s not really a tourist hub. There are few street cafes etc. Santa Cruz is better for people who want to shop and eat, but I have found it a handier base for hiking eg you can walk to Caldera de Taburiente, and getting to El Pilar is easier from LL than SC though perhaps not by much. The weather is unpredictable both sides of the main ridge, but you get more afternoon sunlight from the west side. Tourist Information is excellent. Bus services are really good and reliable throughout the island, but there may be two hours between them. LL is more spacious than SC, which I found hemmed in by the hillside. I just prefer it!Guest review bySimonSpain - 10.0
It’s a charming town with colourful houses.
It’s a charming town with colourful houses. Not over touristy but several cafes and restaurants. Most reasonably priced. Difficult to always find a parking space in town, but available with a short walkGuest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Absolutely amazing location.
Absolutely amazing location. Beautiful views, quiet yet only few minutes drive to local shops and restaurants. The host was very friendly and accommodating with requests. We were delayed for 2 hours on arrival and it was no problem. Locked myself out of safe and it was rectified very quickly by the host. Thank you so much.Guest review byWitoldUnited Kingdom - 10.0
It is good base for trekking in the mountains.
It is good base for trekking in the mountains. There are basic shops, pubs, bus stops. You have a few good options for hiking right in the place and you can get by car in 1 hour almost everywhere on the island. If you are on La Palma for beaches... well, I would try another place on south but Puerto and Tazacorte is not too far.Guest review byJan - 10.0

My sister and I made this trip to visit the birthplace of our abuelo. We found the city charming with many good restaurants and shopping choices. I loved sitting at the Plaza de la Alameda to people watch amid the lovely palms and flowers. The black sand beach was stunning. We took took a tour to the Cumbre Vieja volcanic site with a side stop of The Virgin of the Snow church. A hidden gem! Our family name is based on goat - be prepared for some steep slopes but lots to see along the climbs.Guest review byJanaUnited States - 10.0

Hiking is our thing and La Palma offers hundreds of kilometres of well signed and maintained hiking trails. The mountain regions are very steep and remote walking poles , food and water essential for solo trips. Brena Baja is more gentle and stunning all year round, though the springtime flowers are the best 🌻👀👍🏻 Los Cancajos or Santa Cruz are convenient bases for catching buses all over the island so you can do circular or linear (bus to bus) hikes.Guest review byGarethUnited Kingdom
