You do not have to miss any comfort to still get the experience of living in older times. The house contains museum items so every day there is something to inspect or admire. No, you do not have to tiptoe through the big rooms, you have ample space to move. The modern built old bathtub is a comfortable and funny experience. The kitchen has all necessary modern amenities in a style that suits the property. In all details a successful attempt to perfection. Besides all this, Ikuno is a charming little town, with surprising good views at every bend of the river, where life seems to go at an easy pace. There are nice places to eat and there is a big enough supermarket with a good variety of fresh foods.

The owner Nao is a very welcoming and very friendly person. The property has pictures and explanations for how to use everything in it so it was very easy to do what we wanted. Nao provides a free shuttle service to Kinosaki Onsen, about just a 10 minute ride. He also picked us up and dropped us off at the station once we left. The land around the property is also very beautiful as the beach is right there. Overall, I would definitely book this place again if I went back to Kinosaki Onsen.

Situated in Takeno, a lovely fishing town only 15 minutes by train from Kinosaki Onsen (and a lot less crowded), the guesthouse is litteraly a few steps away from the most beautiful beach we saw in Japan. Inside, everything is made to make you feel at home. Everything is clean, beaufiful and smells good. The host speaks good english and is very helpful. This family guesthouse is our best discovery during our trip and we highly recommend it.
