Malaga Centro
In downtown
Centuries of malagueño passion gives the town center its heart. Relive Roman theatricality in the amphitheater, and celebrate Málaga’s most famous son at Museo Picasso, all under the ramparts of the Alcazaba. Join locals on teeming terraces, sip sweet wine at Antigua Casa de Guardia and drink in the sunset from the lofty Gibralfaro Castle.

Carretera de Cadiz
1.9 miles from downtown
Málaga’s roots as an industrial port are on show in Carretera de Cádiz. Now-dormant chimneys preside over the beachfront, where malagueños stroll, exercise and sip beer at beach bars. Packed with locals, this area is home to alternative art spaces La Cochera Cabaret and La Térmica. It’s also home to some of Málaga’s quietest beaches.

Puerto de la Torre
3.7 miles from downtown
A different kind of air blows through Puerto de la Torre. Perched on a hillside above Málaga’s city center, its snaking mass of quiet residential streets envelop the slopes, where rows of low-rise houses are peppered with swimming pools. Beyond the town, the roads leading to Antequera and Granada roll northwards through the mountains.

Soho
0.4 miles from downtown
Graffiti: art or vandalism? A community project has allowed Soho to bloom into an urban art scape where images of crows, chameleons and mind-bending robots vie for wall space. Among the paint, you’ll find modern art at the Contemporary Art Museum (CAC) and shops that sell hipster staples like vintage clothes and organic food.
Places to stay from $22 a night
Málaga has reinvented itself as a cultural epicenter. In the past, just about every vacations here involved a direct trip from the airport to a resort on the Costa del Sol – but not anymore.
Nowadays, around every corner you'll find a museum or art gallery. Among the best are the Museo Picasso Málaga, which features over 200 works by Spain’s most famous painter, and the Centre Pompidou Málaga, a contemporary art museum crowned by a giant, multi-colored cube.
The Pompidou and other modern attractions call Muelle Uno home, an open-air shopping mall and collection of restaurants next to the Port of Málaga. Be a Malagueño for a day and treat yourself to a plate of "boquerones" (fried anchovies), then head to a back-street tapa bar in the center for some Manchego, chorizo, and Iberian ham. Afterwards, walk it all off through the gardens of the Alcazaba – an ancient Moorish fortress from the 11th century.
Málaga’s position between the mountains and the sea hosts a pleasant microclimate that keeps the beaches busy well past the summer. Malagueta Beach is the most popular with its high-quality facilities and beachside bars.

Malaga is historically and culturally interesting, very walkable, sunny, not too long a flight from the UK and by the sea. It has some very good restaurants and excellent tapas bars. Good quality food and drink is readily available and relatively cheap. It has a spectacular food market and lots of quite high end shopping. It's also on the Spanish high speed train service and most other Spanish cities are easy to reach from Malaga.

Yes, Malaga is a great place to visit. We particularly liked the castle, the beach and the Picasso museum. Be aware that Malaga is a very popular party city and that it gets very crowded particularly when many cruise ships are in port. The historic centre is great for eating and drinking and has good shops and bars. Do not stay in this part of town if you like to get a good night's sleep as it is very noisy all night and then again in the morning as the bars and so on restock. Better to choose an accommodation option near to the centre but accessible to public transport, which is excellent. Also be aware that to get taxis if you sty in the pedestrianised centre you have to walk some way with cases to a point where they can pick you up.

An exciting and vibrant city with so much to see and do - especially for art lovers! So many art museums and the Roman theatre and Alcazaba are also so worth a visit. Lovely beaches, great food and shopping. Also great day excursions available - highly recommend Caminito del Rey!

Wide range of cafes and restaurants, plus bakeries with irresistible cakes, tarts, bread….large number of museums and art galeries, exhibitions, some free, or very low cost entrance charge (Picasso museum is the exception) expansive promenade by the marina. Small specialist shops, plus a wonderful fabric shop behind the ATARAZANAS market.

A very interesting and vibrant City, many historical sites and wonderful architecture. The added benefit is its close to the sea with access to beaches, Marina and the wonderful Med. A very social City buzzing day and night. You are never more than a few feet from a good tapas bar or restaurant.
