Central Glasgow
In downtown
The historic centre is a medley of architectural styles. Gaze upon the Italianate city hall on George Square, then head to Little Italy to chomp on top-notch pizza. Spot Doric columns and Palladian windows while bar-hopping in the Merchant City area. Then sip on a cuppa at the Art Nouveau Willow Tea Rooms, designed by Charles Mackintosh himself.

North West
1.3 miles from downtown
Glasgow University lends this area a youthful, bohemian vibe. Fresh-faced whippersnappers wander its illustrious campus, and kooky art lovers browse Kelvingrove Park’s galleries. Stop off in a student bar on Ashton Lane – this quaint, cobbled street is the perfect place to debate the Glasgow School’s contribution to Art Nouveau into the wee hours.

South
2 miles from downtown
A green belt of possibilities. Among the gardens of Pollok Park lies a gallery with paintings by El Greco and Goya. Then there’s the Burrell Collection – it displays Chinese art in a quiet woodland setting. In Queen’s Park, go “quackers” for duck ponds and nature walks. Or, trace the history of Scottish “fitba” (football) at Hampden Park stadium.

East End
1.6 miles from downtown
The East End’s gritty yet charming. Head to Barras Market for classic Glaswegian shopping. Its independent traders sell everything from antiques to kilts. Pop into the Blue Lagoon chip shop to taste a deep-fried Mars bar (at your own risk!). Wash it down with a pint among raucous Celtic FC fans – their green-and-white pubs line Gallowgate Street.

Glasgow—named European Capital of Culture of 1990—combines beautiful architecture with a thriving arts scene. Visitors will never run out of fun things to do, from exploring the Georgian buildings of George Square to going on a shopping spree down the "Style Mile."
Scotland’s largest city is also home to several famous museums. Find inspiration at the avant-garde Glasgow Science Centre on the banks of the River Clyde, or the iconic Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, where you’ll find everything from dinosaur fossils to Dutch masterpieces. Meanwhile, the award-winning Riverside Museum showcases the city’s transportation and shipbuilding heritage.
Stylish cafes and cozy restaurants line Glasgow’s renovated riverfront, while its architectural legacy is preserved in the Victorian designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The innovator's work can be found throughout the city, from the central Lighthouse to the Hunterian Art Gallery, which recreates the famous architect’s home in striking detail.
Nowadays the city’s main creative outlet is music. Catch a gig at any one of the countless spots, from the world’s oldest surviving music hall to the venue that launched the career of Oasis.
Glasgow also makes a great base for exploring the surrounding natural landscape. Loch Lomond on the lowlands border is about a 30-min drive away, leaving you right at the edge of the lush, vast Highlands.

Glasgow has some local attractions but they could be promoted better. Nice botanical gardens. the west of Glasgow is a nice part to visit. Motorway systems are confusing. Satnav essential and be on your toes.

It is a lovely city with lots of character and choices for food and drink. There is also a good array of visitor attractions and a rich history to the place. I was pleasantly surprised by the art scene not only current, but I discovered in its museum collections some Scottish artists from 1920s, 30s etc. that I was not aware of. Also cultural movements and societal - lost to offer. Would have loved to stay longer and actually explore its surroundings (walks or treks). For those who like to explore on foot: large streets, clean, safe - you can walk easily around the city despite the hilly setting. For those who like to use public transport - at this time (april 2024) the city is under a lot of upkeep and street repairs so it's not so reliable transport wise or as quick.

I went to university in Glasgow many years ago, it has changed a lot but is still very vibrant and buzzy! Lots of bars, coffee spots and restaurants to choose from. The West End is nicer than the City Centre and not too far out of the city to travel. Recommend Rab Ha's for traditional Scottish food, Singl-End is a great brunch spot but booking is required.

Glasgow haSs a wealth of fine architecturemany Art Galleries and over 30 public parks.Only London has better shopping opportunities. There are a multitude of shopping areas within a few minutes walk of the Abode Hotel. There are rail stations thatconnect with the rest of UK as well as rest of Scotland. Glasgow Airport is only a short distance from the city. There is a very frequent airport coach service from Buchanan Street Bus Station. You could get a train to Paisley and trhen a local bus to the airport, but Airport express coach is easier and faster.

Glasgow is a wonderful city, full of culture, art, spectacular buildings and many attractions for young and old. Many people travel to Edinburgh for their taste of Scotland but, although Edinburgh is a beautiful City, it’s not Glasgow😉

It's a quiet place with good shopping areas that are all walking distance. Restaurants are also cross-cultural, so you can explore different cuisines. I loved how the locations are close to each other - you can take leisure time in going around and still be on time for your next bus or train schedule.
