Amazing place. Food phenomenal. Note though that restaurant reservations need to be made weeks or months ahead. They had a great picnic basket dinner option when reservations are full. Breakfast was amazingly good. The option to walk around the monestary at night and early am without tourists made all the difference.
Hostellerie La Croix Blanche is located opposite the Fontevraud Abbey in the heart of the Loire Valley, a Unesco World Heritage Site, 15 minutes from Saumur and Chinon.

We spent 2 nights at La Croix Blanche. It is in the centre of a charming and small village. There is ample parking at the rear of the hotel. As it is an old property there are no lifts to the bedrooms.
We stayed in the family room - spacious and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was very good and we had an enjoyable dinner in the hotel with very good service.
Hotel with 14 rooms, including 2 family rooms for 6 people. The establishment was renovated in 2022. Free WiFi, free bike parking, and closed parking available.
Demeure de la Vignole is a 17th century residence located in the Loire Valley. It offers an indoor heated swimming pool carved into the rock, just 3.1 mi from Fontevraud Abbey.

The cave setting was very interesting. Whole place was charming. Breakfast was divine!

Breakfast was excellent - freshly squeezed OJ & fresh croissants. It is down in the 'cellar' part of the hotel, not outdoors as suggested by their photo on booking.com

The Abbaye is impressive and fascinating to explore (allow a full day) but if the Modern Art Museum is closed ( as it was during our stay) there isn't a great deal more to see in the town.
Saumur (20 minutes away) is a good place to go (we found a vast array of restaurants including a truly outstanding Lebanese and a fusion French/Colombian) and the Domaines for wine ( we visited Gratien & Meyer) are superb and you get to visit the vast tunnels under the cliffs and also taste (and buy probably!)

Magical place with lots to do.
Magical place with lots to do. Enjoyed the art museum and wandered around the grounds. Didn't know that there were beautiful places to eat and drink until we were walking around the grounds - wasn't flagged up and needs to be.
Absolutely loved the buildings but a lot to do in one visit. Could have taken a couple of days to see everything and enjoy the gardens.

Staff is wonderful, rooms adequate but beds in serious need of replacement. The TV in the room had English channels which was great and the location could not be better but the food via room service was appallingly bad.

Beautiful hotel in a stunning location.
Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Friendly, helpful staff. Room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Not a fan of the expensive breakfast that was ‘style over substance’ and couldn’t get WiFi to work. Overall pluses were so strong would recommend.
Free access to the historic, beautiful Abbey complex absolutely made our stay, especially the sound and light show at night.

I went to the new Art Exhibition and had to leave after seeing that. It was incredible and I wish I had been able to take more time.
I have visited the Abbey several times previously and love the place.

Fontevraud-l'Abbaye is a fantastic attraction that has been carefully restored over the last thirty or more years. It was famously used as prison for a period. The prisoners complained to the state that it was a tragic use of such an important monument.
This is where Henri II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard the Lionheart and Isabel of Angouleme chose to be buried. Sensational.
The Michelin starred restaurant on site is also remarkable and an amazing setting.

A great deal is good about this place. It is remote and very peaceful. We found it a priviledge to be able to walk around after it is closed. The rooms are very tastefully done and it is very nice to receive water bottles to fill up in the lobby whenever needed. The location is great for biking and those with a car. We went on excursions in the surrounding area and used Fontevraud as a base (for two nights).
We did not have breakfast at the hotel. There is a little patisserie in the village outside the abbey`s gate.
Very large and comfortable room, cool even after some hot days. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic, with lots of local ingredients. Wonderful to have the swimming pool when it was so warm. Nice touches like being able to serve yourself tea and coffee until late in the afternoon. Unusual rustic buildings, more like a farmyard layout than anything, but including a soap shop and museum to make it even more interesting! Some rooms open on to the kitchen garden. Plenty of space even when the hotel was full.
This place was quirky! The room was one over a restaurant, which was, unfortunately, closed. The bathroom, complete with large bath, was actually bigger than the bedroom, but that didn't really matter. It was strange, but certainly not a traditional hotel room as we imagine them to be - a box with a bathroom in the corner. The breakfast was a DIY affair, but was fine nonetheless. The owner was charming and the location in this sweet little village was perfect.
Wow, this hotel is within the Fontvraud Abbey complex so we could wander round for free. Beautiful historical and well restored Abbey with the bonus of free access to a summer light and sound spectacular. Such a memorable experience. The hotel itself was lovely too, friendly helpful staff and rooms very much in keeping with the Abbey style. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Would recommend.
This quaint small house was a great home base for our exploration of the Loire Valley. It is centrally located in the lovely village of Fontevraud l'Abbaye, just a short walk from the World Heritage Site. We enjoyed the classic feel of the town, the weekly Wednesday market, as well as the gorgeous woods nearby. With a rental car, there is easy access to many wineries and chateaux nearby.

Breakfast was amazingly good. The option to walk around the monestary at night and early am without tourists made all the difference.
We liked they had a restaurant so we did not have yo go out and search for dinner after a long drive. The good was good. The location in this little town with its lovely abbaye is excellent, if a bit off the main track. Our room was a nice size with a large bath.
Charming and engaging host; beautifully appointed room in a delightful village. Nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was delicious and recommendations for dinner and evening viewing of son et lumiere at the Abbaye made for a memorable stay.
What a location - right in the middle of the medieval town - two steps from the entrance to l'Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud.
Lovely courtyard restaurant - tasty great value meal.
The best breakfast we've ever had in a three-star hotel.
We were a group of four on a cycle tour. The hotel provided us with two good rooms with separate beds and secure bike storage. We also ate well at dinner and breakfast. It is perfectly situated in the centre of town.
The rooms were on the small size but super comfortable, full of nice details, and with a lovely view over the abbey grounds. In the morning, getting to visit the abbey before people arrive is a great experience as well.
breath takingly beautiful hotel, situated in the peaceful and secluded monastery abbaye de fontevraude.
nice and comfortable rooms. very nice staff.
the restaurant serves superb high quality food as well
The restaurant on the property was lovely and the hotel breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The pool and whirlpool were a treat and the soap boutique was fun to shop in.
Gorgeous, shabby chic style hotel - authentic,
French experience in a beautiful old building.
Soap shop is an added bonus, lots of beautiful
goodies that make great gifts.
