For me, it felt like finding a hidden little gem. A lovely renovated post office next to the center of Leeuwarden, a 10 minutes walk from the train station (or 3 minutes by Check). The room was lovely, really very well done, comfortable beds, great bathroom. Also, it's very quiet. There are several 'rooms' (halls) for food and drinks, I was told the food at dinner is really good (I unfortunately didn't have the opportunity to check it), but breakfast is very complete, both as a buffet, but you can order special dishes from the kitchen.

    A unique town to visit. A beautiful town centre with many restaurants and bars to choose from. Many historic buildings to view and admire. I visited the nearby Koninkje Luchtmacht vliegbasis where a major NATO exercise was taking place.

    We enjoyed Leeuwarden for the 2 days we were there, a...

    We enjoyed Leeuwarden for the 2 days we were there, a delightful small town with a mixture of old and modern. We particularly enjoyed the canal trip - do the longer 1.5 hour one; it's only 8 Euro. Of course we did the Fries and ceramics museums, a little disappointing as although everything was very well presented, they make the most of what they have, there weren't that many exhibits. It didn't cater very well to non Dutch speakers I thought. We didn't go up the wonky tower as it was a very hot day and we were tired, interesting to look at though. If you enjoy meat go to Loetjes restaurant next to the hotel, excellent ! Watch out for bicycles everywhere, they seem to have priority in Netherlands. FYI it is illegal to drink alcohol in public places.

    I didn't know what to expect but picked Leeuwarden as a central spot for exploring Friesland. It is a beautiful town that is the perfect size to get around easily. There was so much more to do here than I expected and could easily have stayed for a week or more without getting bored. It was easy to walk to great museums, restaurants and shopping. My children highly recommended the Nature Museum which was very interactive and good for children of all ages and adults too. We enjoyed shopping in the Blokhuispoort and taking to the artisans about their sustainability story. We stayed at the Post Plaza Hotel and highly recommend it. Next time, I will go in spring/summer/fall and rent a bike to explore even more. Very bike friendly city.

    The city is a perfect example of how to combine the old with the new. The architecture is very nice to observe, the people are friendly, there's a lot going on on the streets so it's never boring and there are also a lot of quiet places by the canals where you can get a moment of rest. There are not a lot of things that would be specifically aimed at tourists which adds a very nice wibe as you get the sense that the atmosphere is very genuine.

    Friesland is a beautiful area of the Netherlands.

    Friesland is a beautiful area of the Netherlands. Leeuwarden itself is a busy tourist town with lots of things to see and lots of shops and restaurants. Like many of the surrounding villages (for example Franeker) it is full of old, historic buildings. The sea is not far away and you should definitely try a guided mud walk (wadlopen) when the tide is out. A few kilometers to the south of Leeuwarden you will find De Alde Feanen National Park. Rent a bike in Grou and cycle along one of the many marked cycle routes.

    I've only stayed two days for a conference, it wasn't sufficient to discover the town. From what I could experience, Leeuwarden is a pleasant place with historical sites. It's great for walking and biking, has a lot of restaurants for all the tastes. At the same time, everything is quite expensive, from accommodation to food.

    Everything, but especially the friendly receival, the location, the 'binnensted' of Leeuwarden, the originality of the apartment, the water around, the free parking place in front of the houseboat, the relaxed Frisian people, the overall interior style (kitchen tools, towels, walls, floor, furniture in a beautiful and original design and materiality), everything we needed was there. This place is one of our best experiences (and Booking knows how many I've had!) Marian, we will come again!

    Mammoth loft apartment in a historic building above a student employment agency. We were allowed to place our bags early, which was a great help. Consisted of a big bedroom connected to a sitting room by a spacious corridor, all well-decorated and clean. Great value given the quality of lts large space. Leeuwarden was a great base for exploring Friesland. Responsive and attentive host.

    A really wonderful hotel, with a slogan, just a room, the rooms are beautiful decorated, in a stylish way. There is no lobby, and you get the keys via a link. A good breakfast is provided in the restaurant linked at the hotel, for a reasonable price with a lot of choices. There are lots of restaurants in the same street, and they are close to the centre of Leeuwarden.
