The Fountain Inn, hotel in Parkend

Set in Parkend, 32 km from Kingsholm Stadium, The Fountain Inn offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

Everything - from the welcome on Friday eve to the farewell on Sunday morning our party, intent on a solid conversational endeavour with full catering and accommodation requirements for the whole duration l, could not have been better treated. Michelle and her staff were wonderful - responding immediately and cheerfully to our every request - we had three visitors to add to the throng on Saturday who were equally warmly welcomed and fed and watered - food of the highest quality served piping hot and with all the trimmings. Four of us stayed the two nights and the whole of Saturday we had a room to our selves to conference in. Again - teas, coffees and lunch etc served up swiftly and on time. Cannot praise the service and the facilities and the surroundings highly enough. The Forest of Dean is a beautifully serene, atmospheric area with a quality, an ambience, all of its own - I love mixed woodland containing a wonderful mix of wildlife from wild boar to tawny owls, woodpeckers and kingfishers so maybe I’m biased. Thoroughly relaxing weekend in which to do some serious reminiscing and plan the recording of our contribution to social history. I hope to return before here later this year. Meanwhile thank you.

White Hart Inn, hotel in Parkend

White Hart Inn has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Cinderford. Boasting family rooms, this property also provides guests with a children's playground.

The staff are friendly and the pub is totally dog friendly, the location is great and the food was lovely. I love that they accept dogs in the rooms and the bar and restaurant. The walks in the forest of Dean are close and fantastic. The rooms are great (although a bit too hot for me) they have everything you need and are done out very well. I would highly recommend this pub for a stay and food.

Sadly, The Fountain Inn is up for sale, so I cannot vouch for how it may be run under new management. I sincerely hope it will remain as great as it's been for many years. Parkend is a handy area to visit many fine local places. Nowhere more than a half hour drive.

Parkend is a small village with minimal facilities, although there is a village store/post office and a couple of pubs. Sunday evening meals are served in nearby pubs, which should be noted because some establishments do not. There is a heritage railway station giving access to Lydney and the River Severn, and it is a good base to explore the Forest of Dean and surrounding area, for both walkers and cyclists.

A lovely home away from home.

A lovely home away from home. Everything we needed was on hand. The place was clean and lovely. A charming location. I would highly recommend a visit. 2 young children thought a TV in the bedroom was on par with a lotto win 😆

Beautiful place to stay in the middle of the forest.

Beautiful place to stay in the middle of the forest. Easy access to long and short walks, 2 pubs with good food. The steam train runs through it though as well. Surrounded by absolute beauty and easy access to other areas within the forest. The Fountain Inn is amazing and as accommodating as can be during covid restrictions with family and dog friendly picnic areas and beer gardens.

A super-comfortable and very clean cottage. Wonderful location - walking and cycling into the forest (6 km to Cannop Cycle Centre on the easy cycle paths). Close to Parkend for shop/post office/cafe - you can even walk or cycle down the disused railway. Having 2 separate ‘bedroom suites’ is ideal. Well equipped and very well thought out. The garden area is lovely to sit out in. Parking for 1 car at the front - and room for 2 more at the back. Excellent WiFi (no mobile signal in the cottage). We will definitely be back.

Beautifully renovated, clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom large with good shower pressure. Breakfast was the best and pre ordered from an extensive menu. The location is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, numerous walks begin from Parkend village and many beautiful places are within 15 mins drive including Symonds Yat Rock. Two doors down from the Deanfield is a pub that does great food. The hosts are professional and friendly. Overall, an exceptional place to relax and explore.

The breakfast, staff, hotel room 5* the only problem was booking .com advertising was so so wrong the hotel looks nothing like the out dated picture was quiet disappointed with the look as you photo gave us the impression it was on it own with grounds, we could only just get through the drive gates and there was bistro set in the garden to sit at so slightly disappointed but staff was brilliant and cleanliness was off the scale so please booking .com update your pictures .

Outstanding customer service - a truely welcoming and friendly owner. Can't remember staying in a hotel that had a better rapport with the guests. Good food and restaurant service. Spacious room - over looking the road, but the area is so quiet its not an issue. Fantastic location for exploration of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. The outside photos of the hotel/pub don't do the inside justice - but its is a very old building with history. Another plus!
