The Blossoming Costa Brava
Sweeping around a sandy bay backed by mountains, the fishing port Roses has become one of the most popular Costa Brava resorts. This was partly due to El Bulli, one of the world’s best restaurants, which once graced a neighboring village.
Although that landmark restaurant is now closed, the town still has plenty of eateries and bars with some of the area’s best nightlife. Some are by the long promenade with palm trees beautifully silhouetted at sunset. Around the Bay of Roses, the headland becomes more rugged and the beaches more cove-like. In the opposite direction is the large Roses marina, although the one in next door Empuriabrava is huge.
Water sports are very popular here, including diving and windsurfing. The Aqua Brava waterpark has a host of slides, rapids and a wave pool, and other entertainment includes go-karts and minigolf.
Above the southern end of town, the star-shaped ruins of the 16th-century Castell de la Trinitat overlook the lighthouse. On the other side of Roses, the Ciutadella is a much larger site containing Greek and Roman remains and partly surrounded by medieval walls. Even older are the Creu d’en Cobertella megalithic structures, one of which is the largest in Catalonia.

Beautiful Spanish resort full of French Tourists as the border is so close. Fine sandy beaches which are cleaned and smoothed every morning. History buffs will be in heaven visiting Neolithic Dolmens and medieval castles and forts - don't miss the Ciutadella on the seafront, it is magnificent! Wide clean promenade with separate bike lane. Very close to the beach. On the beach you have a nice view over the bay and Roses and it is a nice walk to Roses, past many (too) large hotels, but Roses is a nice and cozy seaside resort. Attentive owners who do their very best, trying hard communicating in English. We would definitely stay again.

I was a bit dubious about staying on the cheaper side (Hotel Mediterraneo, not the Spa side) but I shouldn’t have worried, it was brilliant. Amazing staff, amazing pools, breakfast was yummy with so much choice, even Cava if you want it! They have gluten free and lacto free choices too! Just ask for a balcony on the top floors otherwise in shade. We will definitely be back.

There are restaurants to choose and all were good, breakfast at the hotel were very nice and well though given the COVID situation. The pool is very nice. We had an ocean view room which I recommend to have 100%. You can park in the street, parking at the hotel has an extra cost.
