One of the major seaports connecting France and England, Saint Malo is Brittany’s most visited town and a tourist destination in its own right.
The Old Town overlooks the English Channel and is completely surrounded by restored walls. You get a great view of them if you arrive on the ferries from England to St Malo (either direct or by the Channel Islands). Once an island, this citadel now shelters behind it the hundreds of sailing boats bobbing in the modern harbor.
Within the Old Town are bars and restaurants serving oysters from nearby Cancale, and many of the St Malo hotels. The most notable sights are the cathedral with its colorful, stained-glass window, and the castle - site of the town's museum.
The beaches are sandy, though the water is somewhat bracing. A causeway leads to Grand Bé, a rocky island housing the tomb of Chateaubriand, its most famous son. To the south is the 14th-century Solidor Tower, a remarkable collection of artifacts from voyages around Cape Horn. Further inland is Labyrinthe du Corsaire, a huge maze that will keep kids busy for hours.
In the Rance River, connecting the sea to Dinan, is the world’s first tidal power station. The road over it leads to Dinard Airport, the closest to Saint-Malo.
Saint Malo is a very interesting and beautiful town.
Saint Malo is a very interesting and beautiful town. It has something for everyone, whether couples or families. Shopping, walking playing at the beach or just a stroll along the ramparts.we were there a week and still could have stayed longer. Public transport is at your door to explore surrounding areas.
Sunsets were amazing.

Outstanding medieval walled city rich in centuries of history. Inside the walled city is a beautiful labyrinth of cobbled lanes and alleys, filled with cafes, shops, restaurants and hotels. A truely unique experience that visitors should invest time to discover all there is to see. The changing tides and the effect on the local coast is remarkable to see. Best to visit at low tide.

One of our favourite places to visit in France. Lovely walk around the ramparts and historical information is readily available. Shopping is a lovely experience and lots of bars. restaurants and bistros to choose from. Ideal for all ages and something for everyone. Great place to stay for a few days. Nice safe beach with a seawater bathing/swimming pool. Top quality restaurants, nice cafes and bars. Good shopping. Tourist Office very helpful. Lovely place to visit for a long weekend ; great beaches and restaurants. We ate at Le Cale in Solidor ; great seafood but quite pricey and in a great location overlooking the bay. The Creperie also great for snacks, tapas and drinks. Great atmosphere and great views and great value for money.
Intra muros really interesting and great to walk around walls. Enjoyed walking around the peninsula between Solidor and St Malo . A great walk parc Solidor with fab views and a great private beach at low tide.
We were just out of season so weren't able to to use the sea bus across to Dinard as planned.
We were very warmly welcomed by a very sympathetic receptionist who explained to us all important things for our stay in Saint Malo. The hotel has a typical French charme (for me as a foreigner, at least). The location is great - you are directly in the walled city and can fully enjoy this historical place. We had a nice view from our room. Parking was also much easier than expected - we found a spot in the same street and over night, it´s free of charge. You only have to pay after 9am next day.
We love St. Malo. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to all the amenities of Intra Muros. Love sitting outside, having a drink and watching the world go by!
We were very happy with our room. It was spacious and although there was "no view", it was quiet! Not disturbed by the packing away of tables and chairs in the early hours of the morning or the sound of the bins being emptied!
We always get breakfast at the hotel when we get off the ferry. It is the best meal of the holiday!
While the check in was complicated ( for me) the agent on the phone was helpful. The mattress is the best I've encountered in France so far. Very comfortable pillow -top. Warm comforter and nice pillow ( all synthetic- so great for those with dust mite allergies). The room and bathroom were very clean. Everything is new and it was nice to stay somewhere so clean. I love the towel heater and again, the best part is the mattress.
Great location to train, port and shops. A short 10 min walk to St.Malo, a famous medieval walled city rich in centuries of history, including more recent times when the Nazis locked the gates of the city to prevent the citizens from escape.. inside, the city is a beautiful labyrinth of cobbled alleys and lanes filled with cafes, shops, hotels and restaurants. Truely great experience worth investing the time to see.
The hotel was within the old city walls so very close to all the major sights. The narrow streets teem with shops and cafes and ice cream! The room was comfortable ,although ours was a little small. There was little space for our suitcases. Breakfast was varied and fresh each day and overall delicious. Our hostess was very accommodating of our non caffeine/lactose free desires. There was an elevator too!
The hotel is located in the beach of Saint Melo. It is clean and staff is very friendly and helpful. However, we had purchased one of the smaller rooms. It had literally no windows. So small even for 2 people. It was not possible to stand both for me and my wife at the same time. Considering it is quite expensive, the value for money is not good. If I go Saint Melo again, I'd stay in a hotel cheaper.
Excellent location within a short walk of the public parking outside the town walls. There was a lift. There are many restaurants nearby at all budget levels. The double glazed window were extremely effective at keeping out street noise. There is superb bakery just across from the hotel (not open Mondays) but a buffet continental breakfast is also available in the hotel.
There is nothing particular about this small hotel. Yet the managers are friendly and helpful. The hotel offers a solid value within 20 minutes walking distance from Saint-Malo intra muros. It is also less than 100 meters from the beach front.
Note that what was described as "lit double" is akin to a queen sized bed or slightly larger.
This is a budget hotel located 10 - 15 minutes walk from the old town. There were the usual facilities including a buffet breakfast and free parking. The old town is walled with narrow streets so it is best to walk via the commercial harbour and ferry port to explore the historic town.
the hotel is located "intra muros" which means inside the fortified old city which is the best place to stay.
Diner at the hotel was excellent.
If going by car, make sure to book a parking at the hotel since parking spaces are very difficult to find in the city.
The location is wonderful! Steps away from the beach and a very quick walk to the walled city. The room was perfect for my family, comfortable beds and spacious. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The breakfast was also really great.
The place is amazing and unusual, not just your regular boring apartment or hotel room. It's full of weird and beautiful artifacts and located in the heart of Saint-Malo. Very advisable for everyone travelling with friends!
We had a spacious room in a prime location for a fair price. The staff were friendly and helpful. Ample parking a short walk from the hotel. The breakfast was sufficient but could be improved with greater selection.
Location fantastic for train station. 15 min easy walk to old walled city. Clean, modern hotel with helpful staff. For a 6 am train, they even opened breakfast room a little earlier to offer some coffee, options.
The lady that met us was lovely, friendly and so helpful could not do enough for us. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in France. The bed was comfy, the shower was very good overall a great hotel.
Fabulous hotel in a lovely location within the old town walls. The hotel owner and staff were very helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. Parking was easy and close by and reasonable in price.
Beautiful hotel in the walled city of St Malo. Fantastic location, very welcoming reception staff. Parking under the hotel. Everything you need for a stay in this beautiful place, really lovely.
St Malo a very nice city. Above expectations. Hotel is located at an excellent place, many restaurants, nice terraces. Reception lady very nice and spoke Mexican spanish.
Would be a fine budget option in cooler temperatures and with no need for Wi-Fi. Staff was friendly and did their best. The issues are not their fault.
