Once you are able to walk to the top of he village and scale around 200 steps, you come to the entrance. After that you walk up another. Then you enter the Abbey. It’s so beautiful, well with the trek. Take the guided tour and learn all kinds of assitonal thkngs not in the Guide books. It’s free. Go early. It started to get crowded by 11:00. The village is very touristy. I wouldn’t recommend staying for lunch.
Bring mosquito repellant. In the village on the Mont there was no problem, but the waiting area around the information center (and even in the center) where the shuttle buses pick you up was riddled with mosquitos. We were traveling in October and did not expect this. Otherwise it was a fabulous visit that is worth the extra effort to get there.
We are very happy to see this city in the UNESCO list. To us, Mont Saint Michel is a MUST-SEE site. We ate at La Mere Poulard and enjoyed the authentic traditional French meals. Enjoy walking in the Grand Rue and feel cuteness of walking in the narrowest streets in the world.
This amazing little medieval village is exactly what any person who loves history would hope for. The sheer height of Mount Saint Michel Abby, rising from the top of the mount, is breathtaking...it just keeps going up!! You will get your exercise wandering the steep, winding cobblestone pathways through the village. Staircases appear around every corner, and wind upward,..it seems you could get lost, but indeed, this is an island, and you will only be lost for a few lovely moments. Plenty of places to eat, lots of shopping, and amazing views all around. Truly a step back in time!!
The setting is gorgeous and well maintained. Signage was excellent as was parking and shuttle. It was too busy. I wouldn’t ever come in summer again. Also, service at #1Ler Terese Poulard was the worst we had in one month of European traveling.
I liked visiting the Abby and walking around the mont. it was a hike to get around. I saw lots of people out on the tideflats and wished I had known to book a walk out there with a group. As I traveled alone this trip, it was too dangerous to go it alone.

AMAZING location, beautiful view. Staying on the island allowed us to miss the crowds and see the tide go in and out from our own balcony. This room was perfect for the experience we were looking for on Mont st Michel. Recommend a one night stay, but get in late/leave early to avoid the crowds. You will still have plenty of time to explore. You should leave your baggage in the car park and just bring a backpack as the crowds and walking make any luggage a challenge.

It was on the Main Street....the staff are very helpful...I was arriving at night and worried I will not find my hotel but the head staff had looked out for me so when I walked by with suitcase....he called my name and voila....I was found

Staying on the island was amazing. The tourist groups leave about 6 and the island becomes much quieter and you can explore the ramparts more quietly. Breakfast in the morning was good. So quiet at night with car noises. Just seagulls!

Good location and I do really recommend staying on the island because seeing it at sunrise and sunset with less tourists is when you really understand what is so special about Mont St Michel.
