We had a great visit to the Mont, staying at the hotel closest the Mont for two nights. This felt about right and gave us enough time to do everything on the Mont without feeling rushed. We had hoped to do a tour of the bay on our second day but this was unfortunately cancelled. The guided tour of the abbey was great (in English), with the tour guide being very knowledgeable. You can either take a shuttle bus or walk the roughly 3km to reach the Mont. Overall, would definitely recommend to visit the Mont as it is breath-taking.
I would recommend to just visit in passing : spend the day there to visit the abbey and maybe watch the sunset but no need to book for a night. This place is a literal tourist trap so don't expect to find any supermarkets or pharmacies, you'll be forced to buy overpriced & overhyped everything from restaurants (5€ for a small bottle of water and 30€ for omelettes). All the food there was mediocre at best. Skip the museums, they're really old, creepy and there's not much to see. There's really not much to do. Le Mont is not accessible for people with mobility issues.
This had been a place my wife had always wanted to visit - I was not so sure! However, the place is magical and well worth the trip - It has it all, history, intrigue, awe and the capacity to take you to another place. I would recommend it - there are some difficulties in traversing the steps, but if you do one step at a time you will make it. The amenities fit the ambience of the place and provide for all your needs.
Absolutely amazing being able to experience the island at Mont Saint Michel for 3 days Spent the entire day at the Abbey for my birthday, the reason why I went there to celebrate. The stairs and cobblestone walkways were a bit challenging as a senior yet well worth it..the views were spectacular By the way I came all the way from Maui Hawaii to experience the grandeur..took me 50+ years, remembered hearing about it and seeing pictures as a child The people at the hotel were very friendly and accommodating I had an Abbey view from my window, was able to look up at it everyday to marvel the ingenuity of man's abilities to build an unbelievable structure hundreds of years ago Intend to go back! Aloha & Mahalo
Being an ex-hotelier I feel experienced to say this hotel needs a refurbishment. The comments made by others is correct it is very tired. An interior designer could work miracles as the basis is there. It needs some tender loving care. The staff are great the rooms large, the beds are good but a sparkle clean is definitely needed.
By staying overnight we arrived mid afternoon, visited the Abbaye at 3.30pm, roamed the street at night time when empty, experienced the tide cutting us off from the mainland, saw the sun rise and were ready to leave mid morning. This timing avoided all queuing for buses, Abbaye, mass crowds. I’d suggest booking dinner ahead as many restaurants close early.
I did not have great expectations for this hotel, based on the reviews, but booked anyway because my family wanted to stay on the actual island. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast was quite nice and the staff was very helpful. It was great to be able to wander around Mont Saint Michel after hours and the get into the Abbey in the morning before most of the tourists arrived. I highly recommend this hotel!
I loved this hotel. The room was very spacious. The situation near the river was beautiful. i had a good view of the sunsets and of St. Michael s Mount. It was very handy for the free bus services and the tourist office. And the nearby walks, bars and restaurants. The staff were friendly and helpful, The breakfast was very varied and copious with a wonderful view of the Mount and the landscape.
We felt very welcome at this hotel. Getting to the room was a journey in itself, not in terms of distance but the access along the ramparts offered extensive views of the bay and the amazing sunset. We had a triple room and it was one of the largest we had during our short 5 day stay in France. Water pressure was fantastic too! Do note the hotel's advice on luggage and parking information.
Hotel is in a great location on the island of Mont Saint Michel. There is direct access to the battlements from the hotel. Room was small but comfortable. It's in an old building so we didn't expect a huge room anyway. Restaurant on the ground floor was nice for meals. Staff were friendly. I'm glad to have had the experience of staying on the island.
Nice stay, near to the stop of free shuttle to Mont st Michel. There is a parking spot for 9.80 euro 24h. It is nice to stay with a small kid, the crib was in place. Also thanks to the hotel crew, we were checked in 1 h before :)
The location was great, the bed was very comfortable and the view was awesome! The hotel provided a very nice breakfast. It was a quiet time of year, so, the island was not crowded thus the noise level was low.
The young man who checked us in was very helpful. We also appreciated the good communication from the hotel. Breakfast was good. Location can't be beat. It is worth it to stay on Mont St. Michel.
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Gabriel, the location was excellent, the staff extremely kind and helpful, breakfast was simple and coffee was good.
