Hotel in Le Mont Saint Michel
La Vieille Auberge is located in the medieval village of Le Mont Saint Michel, just a short walk from the famous Mont Saint-Michel Abbey. We knew that this was a two star hotel so went in with minimal expectations. And no, the room wasn't fancy at all and there were few amenities. But to get there you walk up these incredibly old outside stairs and walk outside just below the abbey and being in the room was like staying at the top of a castle! Two windows provided incredible views of the water and excellent cross ventilation. The bed was very comfortable with lovely puffs. And the room was very big by European standards. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. But be aware to get there is all uphill with a number of steps. If you are planning on going to Mt Saint Michel, definitely stay there overnight. The crowds leave in the late afternoon and you actually get to experience the magic.

The traditional Hotel De La Digue in the Basse-Normandie region is only 5 minutes by shuttle from Mont St Michel, or 30 minutes by foot. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the property. The breakfast was great with bountiful fresh bread and venoisserie( pain au chocolat, pain au raisins, croissants) . We had a surprise of our room because it was so conducive, huge and very comfortable especially the big bed . We slept like babies . From the start , we had a great time as we were welcomed by a charming, friendly staff with a lovely smile.

Mont St Michel was very crowded in the day with tourists thronging the streets. We were very glad we decided to stay over for a night at a nearby hotel (not on the Mont). It was very peaceful in the evening and we practically had the village to ourselves. Most shops were closed by then, but some restaurants are open for dinner. Sunset of the Mont was breathtaking!
Mont St. Michele was a magical adventure. From the free shuttle bus to the Mont to the rich history and astonishing vistas from atop the ramparts. We took a self past guided audio tour of the abbey, the commentary was interesting and educational and just the right length. We also toured the village and enjoyed the many restaurants and shops. Go early in the day if your planning to go, the crowds can be a bit daunting and we were there in the off season.
A day or two spent on Mont Saint Michel are perfect. Make sure to book the abbey tickets in advance, and wear your walking shoes!!! SO MANY STAIRS but well worth it if you're able. The restaurant selection on the island is good but they do close early (8pm was basically last seating and a lot were not open for dinner at all)
We have been to Mont St. Michel many times before in the past but we were amazed at the massive changes! There are several beautiful hotels and good places to eat. There is a large modern shop called Galleries. If you are young and fit enough you can walk from the public car park along a raised walkway or you can catch one of the free buses, which come along at regular intervals. I also loved watching the horse drawn 'buses' which passed our hotel - filled with happy people. None of these changes, in my opinion, has damaged the beauty and wonder, that is the actual sland of Mont St. Michel.
Arriving just before night and stating over to see it both in day and night was wonderful. Be prepared for lots of steps ..don't bring the big bag. Eat in the Mere Poulard restaurant for dinner.. just be prepared for a fairly big price but great food. The lobster bisque was the best I have ever had!!
We were lucky to visit at a time when the site was not very busy giving us better opportunity to take in and enjoy the sights. The abbey is amazing and well worth a visit. Shops naturally very touristy but there are many cafes/restaurants offering refreshments.
This hotel in in a community where you can drive in, get a car park access code and park. Hotel Gabriel is near restaurants and shops, the shuttle bus to the Mont ( which travels every 20 minutes to and from the Mont for free till midnight.) The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast had lots of variety. Staff were friendly and helpful. We travelled in early October do we really had no hassles with a park or large crowds.
It is in the perfect location to visit Mont Saint Michel. The hotel is a little outdated and rundown but the room was a very good size, staff were nice and helpful. You do have to go to another hotel to check in. Breakfast was good (included in room cost) Parking is outside (at a cost). If you want a budget friendly hotel and are only staying for a night or 2 this is a good accommodation.
We arrived late and the staff talked us through the parking and shuttle. There aren't many places to stay in Mont Saint-Michel and this one was near the entrance gate with 3 floors of climbing. The room was comfortable with 3 twin beds and mattress cover and the bathroom was big with a tub. The breakfast was in the 1st floor of the restaurant, also at the entrance to the city.
Thé best location for visiting Mont St Michel without actually staying on the island. Very comfortable room with stunning view of Mont St Michel, with the ability to sit either inside or outside comfortably to take in the view. Easy access to walkway and shuttle bus as well as other restaurants. Breakfast was excellent, also with stunning views.
Great location, convenient to reach to Le Mont Saint Michel, either by the free shuttle in front of the door or by walking (not that far). Much lower (4.5 euro 24 hours) parking rate for drivers, make sure you receive the parking lot access code in advance. Has a huge gift shop and a few restaurants around.
The location is superb. Staying overnight on the island is wonderful, especially in the absence of loads of tourists, thanks to Covid and the winter season. Experiencing the unique quiet and mediaeval mystique in the early morning is priceless. The hotel is good value for money
Mont-saint Michel is such a cool place. While I think you only need a day there- max- it was great to be staying on the Island. The room had an amazing view and easy access to the ramparts. Overall - great!
Check in was very smooth. My room had a beautiful view of the sea. The staff was very accommodating. It was nice being on the island after most of the tourists had left.
On the Mont so an unique location. Room a converted house- be aware there is no hotel property at La Vieille Auberge.
The staff was friendly and the location perfect to visit Mon St. Michel. The free shuttle picks up right near by.
The location being on the island was great. We didn’t need to think about leaving to go to a mainland hotel.
It was very good hotel. Staff was so friendly and candly and so helpuful.
