Around the train station, Amiens was rather ordinary.
Around the train station, Amiens was rather ordinary. I was surprised by the giant awning over the plaza near the hotel. Walking north to the centre of town gave a little more charm. The Cathedral is majestic and imposing. Going further north, the Somme river is gorgeous, with the 'quai' restaurants. South of the Cathedral is the Musée de Picardie - a must see with three levels - prehistoric, medieval and recent past, chock-full of artefacts and information. Many gaulish and roman coins, dinosaur bones, statues and busts, and truly beautiful paintings to rival those in the Louvres.Guest review byFromagerFrance - 10.0

Amiens it is well connected to both Paris and the Beauvais airport, thus it wasn’t difficult to add a few days in this city to the trip to Paris and it was well worth it. Very nice medium sized French city. Cathedral is main attaction, just an astonishing building, whatever your views on religious extravagance. Son-et-lumiere there is just jaw-dropping, especially part when it picks out what the original colours of the sculptures would have been. Enjoyed boat trip around Hortillonages 'floating' gardens and the trip on the town road-train. City is clean, felt safe and has all the shops, facilities and restaurants you could wish for. Amiens has a magnificent cathedral that is laser lit in the evening over Summer 2025 from July 12. We walked extensively in central Amiens & enjoyed this much. As Australians we were very interested in seeing WW1 Western Front battlefields and the great Sir John Monash Centre which we toured with an excellent insightful private guide.Guest review byO'Sullivan - 10.0

I spent 2 days in Amiens last year concentrating on WW1. These 2 days, I wanted to experience the touristy things. Still visited that magnificent cathedrale three times. I really liked my more than an hour on le petit train. Philippe our driver and guide would stop the train and give us a talk on what we were seeing. Very entertaining and knowledgeable. The museum is definitely worth an hour or two, or more. A 45-minute boat ride through the Hortillonnages is great. Best to book in advance. Nice to stroll round, and a great choice of places to eat too. Cathedral was not bad. Would have liked to visit the towers, but didn't know before arriving that closed shoes are obligatory for the tour (not even closed toe walking sandals were permitted). St Leu area interesting and some quirky mural art. Expected more little artisan shops in this area - certainly didn't live up to my expectations from reading the various guides and reviews. The staff was incredibly sweet and friendly, a big shoutout to them! My room was clean and comfortable and we even received breakfast. Excellent location as well, quite close to the train and bus station in Amiens.
