Right on the central square of Portaria with its shading plane trees, lies the hotel and restaurant Kritsa. It offers romantic rooms, a rich traditional breakfast.

Where to start? This is one of our new favorite hotels in the world. We had a room with a fireplace, and the wonderful staff were kind enough to help us light it. This means we spent every evening cozied up by a fire, in a small Greek mountain village. What a dream. The food was some of the best we’ve had in all our travels. The breakfast is the stuff of dreams—huge variety, with both sweet and savory options, and delicious cappuccinos made to order. We also had dinner in the hotel restaurant two nights, and each meal was divine. This was the perfect Greek mountain retreat, and we would love to come back and stay again someday!

Chania is centrally located high up the mountain, which makes it a great base for exploring the Pelion peninsula, provided that you have a car. But keep in mind that the mountain roads take time to negotiate so although Mylopotamos Beach is only 13 km away as the crow flies, the driving distance is about 25 km and it takes 50 minutes to get there.
The nights are cool regardless of how hot the day or the temperature further down. Of the hotels in Chania, this was the most reasonably priced one so for that reason the criticism about the interiors should be taken with a pinch of salt. In addition, it seems to serve the best home-cooked meals so even if you don't stay here, the outdoor terrace restaurant is highly recommended. The breakfast buffet, when available, was excellent.
This centrally located, family-run hotel in Portaria’s main square is set among rich gardens, 2133 feet above sea level. The year-round hotel offers a lounge with fireplace and a homemade breakfast.
