Hotels near Khónos

This is a beautiful mountainside hotel in a fairly remote village. The manager was extremely friendly, greeting us enthusiastically with welcome cookies as we parked, although she speaks more English than she can easily comprehend. The Marina is not especially cheap at 70€ per night (two people, mid-April, no breakfast) but the very large and well appointed room with a balcony and a phenomenal panoramic view of valleys and mountains merits the price. One of the nicest rooms ever! The kitchenette includes a good refrigerator/freezer and 2-burner stove top but is not equipped for cooking, offering only one pot and no cooking utensils. I had to ask for a frying pan. A few other omissions of common amenities made me wonder if the management is new and inexperienced. No dish soap and sponge were present, making it very hard to clean up after cooking. I asked for those items shortly before we checked out and the manager cheerily insisted that was her job and we had no need to wash dishes. That's absolutely the first time I've ever been told it's okay to leave the kitchen dirty after cooking.. The mattresses on the two single beds were generally okay but one was noticeably lumpy. Anogeia is a very interesting and picturesque town with a rich past, some of it tragic. There are many historical signs interpreting past events. It's also a center for hand woven textiles, with older women working looms right in the shops. The shopping district is a friendly, pleasant environment. It seemed quite prosperous but one proprietor said the economy struggles because tourists come to Crete for the sea, not the mountains. It's a worthwhile town in which to tarry and explore.

A lovely, authentic, rustic, modest room. From one of the two rooms you have a beautiful Mountain View. You can eat near the window while enjoying the beautiful view or sit outside and enjoy the lovely, peaceful yard. Many mountain trails nearby. Local delicious tavernas 15 minutes away. The nearest beach is also 15 minutes away. John was so welcoming and helpful. Thank you so much for your welcoming hospitality! 🙏We’d love to come back again!

Maria the therapist at the spa is both talented,intuitive and warm hearted. Pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath all meticulously clean. The cook at the taberna was excellent, every item (including mountain specialties)was cooked from scratch Gentle tinkle of sheep bells as they returned home from high meadows Collection of bird, herding dogs nearby all very sweet and not intrusive Beautiful mountain views and gentle hiking. Would be a beautiful destination wedding venue,chapel on premises.

Aristea was warm, welcoming, and wonderful. The property is a little garden of eden, in a beautiful mountain setting. The rooms are traditional, charming, cozy, & clean. Very nice. Thank you so much for the φιλοξενία!

Everything! Location, hostess Poppie’s greeting and support throughout my stay, the gorgeous traditional decor in the apartment, the view from the balcony and living area, fresh cherries from the garden.. It was such a wonderful experience!

  Walking through the front door is like stepping back in time following a family through 400+ years of living, all set with the modern amenities and luxury of today.  The spaces are as unique as the stories that occupy every corner of the residence and the village. This is a place to relax, read and reflect, breathe the mountain air, and sit by the pool overlooking a landscape of valleys, forest, grape vines, olive orchards and the chimes of goats and sheep in the valley below. The generosity and hospitality was second to none.  One day is not enough here. Next time we are Crete, we plan to spend longer at Nassibe and get to the Zeus cave and beyond.
