Indonesia’s capital, sprawling Jakarta has hurtled into the 21st-century at a startling rate. Rapidly expanding, it is an eclectic mix of cultures with an electric clubbing scene including the EX at Plaza Indonesia mall and those near Blok M mall, popular with expats. Jakarta shopping is great, with modern malls all over, interspersed with traditional markets, some underground.
Thousands of Jakarta restaurants and cheap street food provide tourists with tons of choices. Little Japan is best for sushi (and karaoke), while colorful Chinatown has fantastic dim sum. Buzzing around all are bajaj, Indonesia’s equivalent of tuk-tuks.
The main Jakarta sights include Monas National Monument in green Merdeka square. Spectacularly lit at night, it has a deck with fantastic city views. Opposite is the presidential palace, patrolled by the national guard. The oldest part is Batavia – the city’s Dutch Colonial name – and is home to the Jakarta History Museum.
Away from the bustle is Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, a suburban park celebrating Indonesia’s rich culture through museums, dance and film, centered around a large lake with Indonesia-shaped islands. Ancol Dream Park also features waterparks, beaches and amusement rides.
Traffic can be manic, so leave time after checking out of your Booking.com accommodation in Jakarta to get to Soekarno Hatta or Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.
Chinatown, Kota Tua, the National Monument and shopping...
Chinatown, Kota Tua, the National Monument and shopping malls especially in Kelapa Gading are well worth a visit. Apart from that, there is really nothing else to see and do within the city. I do recommend getting a taxi to Halim Station and taking a journey on the "Whoosh" high speed train to Bandung and have a look around. Bandung is well worth a visit for shopping, Braga Street, Jalan Asia-Africa and Gedung Sate.
One has to be careful when choosing a place to eat. Street food is full of risk - despite it being cheap. I ate Sio-may from a hawker and had diarrhoea for 4 days. Restaurants and food outlets in hotels and malls are the safest, along with any other clean, well known outlets.
Travelling in Jakarta itself is a nightmare. Traffic jams and delays make a relatively short distance journey, take a very long time. There are plenty of taxis and gojek - motorcycle taxis.
The air quality in the city is apallingly bad. As with my daughter, first came the sore throat, then the persistent dry cough, then the phlegm on the lungs and the coughing throughout the night. The air quality in the city is so bad, it constitutes a health hazard. Any rivers and streams are also heavily polluted - they look disgusting.
They proliferation of beggars and people looking for money especially from European tourists becomes irritating as it can easily turn into an aggressive situation. It's better not to walk anywhere.
Local attitude toward European/Australian/NZ tourists (in fact any white skin tourists) appears on the surface to be one of mild annoyance or in cases aggression. We were shouted at in a shopping mall to go home - very hurtful and embarrassing. My daughter who is married to an Indonesian regularly receives abuse. It seems a significant number of people resent outsiders and those who cannot speak their language.
All in all, we will never return to Jakarta.

Jakarta is very big and not much to see. Other than high buildings in south which is not really my interest. I managed to save my trip by going to north of Jakarta and visit fishermen. I can though recommend the city if you are for shopping and friendly people

I saw a different side to Jakarta this trip as I had a day to do non-work related stuff. Found some amazing independent coffee bars and had an amazing dinner at Le Quartier, a French restaurant with excellent steaks. Definitely recommended for a visit. The only major downside is the traffic which is absolutely horrendous. Pick an area you want to explore and stay around there. I stayed a night in a lovely boutique hotel called the Gunawarman. Highly recommended.

Jakarta, the business city where you can have a choice of various restaurants in malls and several areas and batik at Thamrin City. The USA Cultural Centre is on the third floor of Pacific Place mall and offers a lot of free events.
I live south of the southern border of Jakarta, so I visit the city a lot. I only stayed at a hotel because I had two events going on in an area and I needed a place to do my powernaps (it would be too far to go home to do the naps).
Jakarta is a business city with interesting places to eat, for example jalan Agus Salim (jalan Sabang) in central Jakarta or jalan Cipete Raya in South Jakarta. The malls also offer a wide range of restaurants.
As for tourism, I like the old city (TransJakarta bus corridor 1). For green lungs I would suggest Ragunan (TransJakarta bus corridor 6) which is also the home of the Zoo. I like the area of Jalan Wahid Hasyim that offiers a wide range of hotels.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is a nice open air museum with sample of traditional buildings of almost all provinces of Indonesia, so very nice to take pictures.
Just beware of traffic jams and the odd/even number plate system (ganjil/genap) that is valid from 6-10 am and 4-9 pm in several main streets. We usually don't say, how far is it, but how long will it take me to get there.
The onlline hailing system Gojek or Grab is very useful to have.
If you have to be in Jakarta, go for the food or shopping. If not, better go to Yogja or Bali

If you have a personal-click, if you do need to be there, or if you have things to do its a very interesting city no doubt, If it is only for holiday fly away as soon as possible. Try any other Airport to enter Indonesia and start from there.
I love jakarta! The smell, the people, the vibs and the life and humor. I can't help it I have a personal click and come back over and over again. But I will never promote Jakarta.

It's always interesting to see a nation's capital — but other than that, there's not much to be said for Jakarta. The old city is a bit grim – must likely because the whole city is literally sinking, in particular the waterfront region. There are slums all over the place — as we found out when we accidentally walked into a very dangerous one while searching for a Sim card. We planned for a 48 hour layover just to get a sense for the place, and it was 40 hours too long.
The main enjoyable thing is going to malls. Personally as a European, mall culture isn't really something that's huge where I'm from and I wouldn't normally advocate it. In Jakarta it's a huge part of the culture of the middle class (there's a great Guardian article on the topic) and they're worth seeing. Also because they're pretty much the only enjoyable thing we found to do there.
Good Location accessible and near to the Center - Grand Indonesia, Bandaran HI, and tourist attractions. There is a Starbucks and other Coffee Shop and money charger on the ground floor and a small street food beside the hotel. Quite Place. Room is fit for business and budget travellers. The staff is so accommodating and pro-active. and I want to take this opportunity to thank all the staff. Thank you for making our stay in Jakarta more memorable.
I recommend this very cozy hotel and I will come back again.
The hotel was exceptional for what we paid for! All the basic amenities are complete. We opted for the deluxe family room eventhough I only travelled with my friend because from the room size description, taking a smaller room would be too cramped with the suitcases we have brought along. Strategically located too, located within the locals residences. Has walkable distance to Grand Indonesia, Thamrin City, Plaza Indonesia & some other attractions.
1. For me the Location was mint - not so far from the airport and directly connected with a Shopping Mall with good food and shops
2. For the price, the variety of menu and the quality of food available from the breakfast package is amazing - Noodles + soup, breads, indonesian and western breakfast are still being given by the hotel
3. fast check in and Check out and assistance from the concierge on material delivery handling
Hotel was very nice and we liked our stay so much and everything was so comfortable for us. Nice view from the highest floors (15). Moreover, it's close to the airport. The best housekeeping service I've ever seen in my life from the housekeeper (RIAMA) she brought us a gift for our baby. Also, she likes her job so much by taking care of very tiny datails like tight up our phone charging cables and more. I recommend this hotel.
Lii oh belt view of central Jakarta. My partner and I stayed here for a day after flying from the UK to Indonesia, with our flight to Bali being the following day. Took us 30 mins from the airport to the hotel but the hotel was located nearby the main hustle and bustle of the city. We’re we’re very close to the big shopping malls. The pool was lovely and the buffet breakfast had some Indonesian staple foods that I enjoyed.
Location giant room personnel large verity of food swimming pool gym very helpful nice and professional personnel convenient parking right in front of the hotel but traffic most l like the MANAGER OF THE HOTEL MONICA. I think if not her if she wouldn’t be there that hotel wouldn’t be as is now. So bravo Monica you’re the best
Very near to Thamrin, Tanah Abang, Plaza Indonesia. Central location.
Spa is not by hotel, but outsourced. They come to your room. Massage was just average.
Small pool.
Twin rooms are small, Suite is slightly bigger. Suite- king bed and a sofa (not a sofa bed as indicated in room description).
It was a comfortable stay. I chose the hotel only because it’s close to Ragunan Zoo, but was better than I expected. There are some enjoyable Indonesian restaurants around the hotel, nice view from rooftop, great facilities like big TVs on the room, and kind staff. Breakfast was delicious also.
Design, location, and overall comfort. I love how the FO staffs went extra miles to give surprise on my birthday. Hospitality is not top notch, but it's decent enough, could be better for a 5 star hotel. It was almost a perfect birthday weekend until one incident happen at the end.
You can tell the hotel was properly built, with the right finishing and stylishly decorated. It was very clean, the staff were courteous and location is literally in the heart of Jakarta. Stone-throw from malls - Sarinah, Grand Indonesia, Plaza Indonesia all at walking distance
The hotel is situated in Central Jakarta and is a perfect hub for exploring the city's finest shopping centres, such as Plaza Indonesia, Grand Indonesia, and Tanah Abang. You can indulge in a wide range of traditional and international cuisine at the nearby restaurants.
The hotel gave us an upgrade to a bigger room, which was really nice and also they provided us a small bottle of water during checkin process. Staff is always welcoming and nice. Also very clean
and pretty cheap hotel. Netflix and youtube were a plus on the TV.
privacy … the hotel is exceptional ..in many ways .. the service, the food, the many areas full of antiques, the library, the Gamelan musicians - who actually had my Indonesian wife sit in with them.
I highly recommend the Japanese restaurant …
I’ll be back
Close to new attractions in the same area and the airport. It is about thirty minutes or forty-five minutes away from other places inside Jakarta, such as malls. The employees are cheerful and helpful. The hotel is quiet and connected to the mall
Great hotel for a stopover. Very friendly and helpful stuff (especially Amar & Vino). Breakfast (buffet) is a great mix between Indonesia kitchen and western incl fresh fruits and drinks. We could extent the check out time without extra charge.
This is most likely thr mme best hotel I have stayed in while in Indonesia. The room was amazingly comfortable and clean, the bar and restaurant very comvenient and the staff so polite and professional. Would definitely stay here again!
Breakfast was probably the most amazing selection ive ever seen at a hotel, Spanish more or less meaning european, Indonesian , Indian, Chinese , Japanese ...pancake section ...out of this world choice
Clean hotel, staff is polite and helpful. Toilet is clean. Location is strategic, within a few mins to Grand Indonesia mall, good location to order grab food as well.
