Semarang is a beautiful historic city, with lots of old buildings and quite a few of them beautifully reinstated and renovated. It is also quite liberal with a good mix of churches and mosques. Because of that, you do see a lot of lovebirds around and once night falls, the colourful Rikshaws ornamented with glowing unicorns and other animals lighten up the city centre. Lovely city, lots to do and see between the old colonial town center and the newer part of the city. Lovely buildings, nice architecture, some small parks, and typical kampong like Pelangi and Batik Kampong. The old Dutch train station was turned into a museum, open to the public for the train lovers. Also the recipient for the #1 cleanest city in Indonesia award Semarang lives up to its reputation. A good mix of old town vs. new development, a hot sunny day in lower part of the town vs. breezy higher part of the town where you can relax and enjoy the rest of your evening. I made a mistake to go back to Semarang on the way from Surabaya to Jakarta and spend 4 days there. It was not Semarang I remembered from 30 years ago. I should have stayed in Surabaya instead or ANY other city than Semarang. I picked the wrong time to travel to Semarang, it was raining the whole evening that we had to cancel going to Semawis (weekend culinary night open market) and riding the bike around Simpang Lima. Otherwise, Semarang at night would have been amazing. Managed to visit Kota Lama, Lawang Sewu and Sam Poo Kong, though. For a very short period of visit, it was worth it.AnnisaIndonesia

It is very convenient if you suddenly need something you can just walk to the mall and get it. The room itself is nice and clean and the food is good as well.
