First and foremost, never stay on House boat for more than one night. Everything is in bad shape here, Food on house boat is never to be tried. Once you stay on ground you have lovely sightseeing experience. Good food is available mostly in the central city restaurants. The lake close by restaurants are expensive and not so good food. At dal Lake Gate 9, Bistro restaurant is very good food though expensive. Do not miss any of the gardens, then Sankaracharya Temple. ancient temple is not anything to see.

The area offers a variety of interesting places and history. With delicious snacks and drinks in the city center, it's easy to get around all day. There are buses and cabs that connect you well on land and water. But you can also rent a bike. Lots of green and blue, incredibly beautiful gardens, temples and simply untouched nature. The small town centers are full of traditional crafts and stores for shopping. exciting architecture and temples, mosques or a museum are not far away. I have wanted to visit Kashmir for 30 years,it did not disappoint.Shrinagar is an excellent base to visit the surrounding towns.The locals were friendly,helpful and engaging.Most of them spoke some English and often thanked us for visiting.I felt honoured to be there and highly recommend a visit as soon as possible.I will return!KimAustralia
