You see a lot of crap online of wether or not Santa Ana is safeS we had zero problems and never felt unsafe at all. Santa Ana and El Salvador in general have made huge inprovements in safety these last years. The town is nice , you'll strugle to find a building with more than 2 stories. It has preserved it's old world charm. Not supermany things to do or see but a good base to go exploring from

The road especially the side streets are horrible.

The road especially the side streets are horrible. Needs a traffic officer in all the main road that are under construction even at night. I closed my eyes hoping that my husband won’t hit a vehicle as he drove on tight traffic areas. I’m worried that our rental car won’t break down on the unpaved roads- lots of rocks and open pits. The Santa Ana people are very helpful and kind.

Santa Ana is a beautiful city where you can a find an extensive variety of restaurants with delicious food, things to do and friendly locals, 25 minutes from the city you can find El Lago de Coatepeque which is a must see while you are in Santa Ana, you will not regret it.

I really liked the Santa Ana Cathedral.

I really liked the Santa Ana Cathedral. As an amateur photographer, I also liked the colorful and dilapidated buildings around the cathedral. They made a great backdrop for street photography. Unfortunately, I spent only a day here so I was not able to see or do many things in the area. It is a great location to jump off the Ruta de las Flores though. I’m definitely happy that I decided to start the route here and not from San Salvador.

Santa Ana is a medium sized city tucked in the mountains.

Santa Ana is a medium sized city tucked in the mountains. The market is fun to explore and cathedral and theatre are gorgeous. Outside of town there are ruins, volcanoes, and a lake within an hour. The town doesn't have much tourism which gives it a more authentic feel, but also means you won't find many good restaurants around the square or at night.

I have to admit, it feels pretty fun to be staying in such a historic house. The rooms were massive (as I suppose one might expect, given it's presidential past) and there was a nice courtyard inside. It would have been hard to get much closer to all of the activity in Santa Ana's main square than this hostel and the area also felt surprisingly safe (even at night). Although we don't remember seeing it advertised, there was a kitchen available (though it was pretty dirty and not the most pleasant to cook in).

Rick is exceptional. He helped me with planning my three days in Santa Ana so well. It was so much fun to rent the motorbike and to drive around to all the interesting spots e.g. the volcano, the ruta de las flores and the lake. But how he helped me and my friend when she got seriously injured was outstanding. He was available on the phone within no time. He arranged a transport to the nearest hospital. And even the transport back to Santa Ana when my friend needed to get stitches. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

The owner took us to a thermal waterfall, muchas gracias! The building is a beautiful old mansion with so much space and character. The burger restaurant downstairs is convenient and the milkshakes are delicious. The staff are eager to help and speak English. The location is central and the Santa Ana Volcano bus stop is just a few blocks away.

The hotel has a beautiful view of the lake. We were in room 2A and the view was excellent. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good, with the exception of the coffee. For the most part, the staff was pleasant enough. Fairly updated facility.

The room was big, aircon worked well as did WiFi. The staff were friendly and the inside of the hotel was a quiet oasis when compared to Santa Ana! There are a couple of pretty average restaurants that are walkable and ample on-street parking outside the front door.
