The old town with historic sites, Arabic and German that is worth seeing. The town has many trees and greenery that add to its beauty. I enjoyed the beachfront and the sea. The new town is not far away with its market and much souvenirs available to buy. I preferred the local food but there are restaurants that foreign cuisine. It's easy to get around by foot but if require many motor cycles and some tuk tuk can take you where you want to go.

Bagamoyo is a very relaxed town.

Bagamoyo is a very relaxed town. Not a lot of night life or restaurant options but what they have is pretty good once you find what you need. It's very safe during the daylight hours to walk around however, after sundown it's advised to take a Piki Piki (motor bike taxi) to get around. These are very inexpensive, a bit of fun and very easy to access as they are everywhere around town. The town folk are extremely friendly and inviting of all visitors so there is a lot of smiling, greeting and well wishing going on. Which is really very nice. I smiled a lot and made lots of nice local friends. This is not a place to come if you are looking for exciting nite life but is great if you need to chill out and slow down. Also, quite a friendly place for visiting families with children.
